I'm similarly building a high yield dividend portfolio mister MD but my average is currently 11%! I currently don't hold LIO but this looks like a potentially interesting entry point. Just have a nagging doubt over what sort of future there really will be for actively managed funds though.

I quite like boring low p/e stocks with high dividend yields (ie the FTSE) - comes with the added advantage of not having to monitor the shareprice all the time, unlike some of the riskier US Tech stocks etc. Currently have a 7% average dividend yield on my portfolio. But no doubt investing in the US markets over past two decades would have been a far better decision ...

As a value investor I tend to dislike high PE ratios. It's a measure of how expensive the share is. There is plenty of research to show that low PE shares outperform high PE shares.

>>RCT - Unless I am mistaken, you have brought up this issue of PER before. There are some (perhaps American) shares on way bigger PE's than 25 and it doesn't discourage investors. Would you be kind enough to explain what your objections are.

Far more likely is that the DOW is overvalued significantly.

If you are happy buying shares on a PE of 25 go ahead.

A quarterly chart comparing the 2 since the FTSE started in Jan 1984.

Certainly has a lot of catching up to do and that will prove very fruitful for LIO and those that buy at these levels

IMHO the whole FTSE is undervalued at 8K and should be over 10K by now, especially when compared with the US markets performance over past couple of decades (e.g. DOW 10K=>40K+) ...

Your full of BS Barnes lad

Just to prove I'm an equal opportunities pedant, I'll upset you both by pointing out that really should be: you're full of BS Barnes lad :-))

Omg horse you really are a Bafoon

That's got to be one of the best offerings I've seen on ADVFN for, well, ever!

A poster that can't even spell "buffoon" properly describes another one as one!

Priceless, comedy gold :-))

Posters like davethehorse are a pretty reliable red flag in my experience.

In too deep and has to post nonsense several times a day presumably out of desperation.
