05/1/2024 14:59 | I see the true yield on any share as a reflection of the price I paid (on average if I make more than one purchase) and the dividend amount I am being paid. I am 'miffed' if I jump in at an acceptable yield point only to fund the share price has dropped further. But, I was happy at that yield point and remain so knowing that eventually the share price will return and even surpass the entry point. If I constantly watch and check, looking for the best yield at any given moment but hoping for something better elsewhere I wouldn't enter the market and hence wouldn't get any yield whatsoever. I would continue to get the 4% paid on cash balances over £100k at ii in my SIPP though. Therefore, it becomes almost a balance between the yield % at entry compared to the 4% loss of interest. I suspect 4% will be reduced soon so that helps me to focus. | ![]() mcunliffe1
05/1/2024 14:24 | yump Apologies CWA The parameters as in everything change and they the markets and the movements make no sense to my way off thinking. Lgen at 203 level provided a 10 % yield if you were astute enough to get in but as the price has climbed currently the yield has dropped I have it @ 8.35 (before Tax) I can see better returns elsewhere and my 'algos?' help to clarify matters for me Is my last word on the matter so. All the very best everybody | ![]() jubberjim
05/1/2024 13:45 | OK, chaps, time to move on from JJ's algos please-and thank you :-) | ![]() cwa1
05/1/2024 13:41 | Erm - how can you be adjusting your own algorithms, that might not make sense to others, without being competent at maths ? Perhaps you don’t mean algorithms at all. Even a trivial one of your own requires non-standard maths knowledge, statistics (a minefield) and an understanding of probability. Are you actually talking about changing the way you throw the darts ? | ![]() yump
05/1/2024 11:27 | Ok enough levity have a gander at Abdn I have my doubts as to sustainability of dividend but all things being equal am very tempted to do one of my erroneous hedges. But will wait a while longer see where the frightened masses will take us Best of luck | ![]() jubberjim
05/1/2024 09:37 | jubber: It's your missus isn't it? Admit it. "I find my own algos help me to resist any impetuous moves (most of the time)" You said. That's one of the definitions of a wife. Then you said: "They work for me and would not make a lot of sense to anyone else and are constantly tweaked." And that's another definition. ;-) And a prosperour New Year to you jj. | ![]() mcunliffe1
05/1/2024 08:20 | Would prefer not to I do get denigrated a lot and I often appear foolish due to my very limited maths understanding. A lot of the detail posted here I do not and cannot understand most of the time. I find my own algos help me to resist any impetuous moves (most of the time) They work for me and would not make a lot of sense to anyone else and are constantly tweaked. So profound apologies Hope we all have a prosperous New Year | ![]() jubberjim
05/1/2024 08:13 | Could you give more details on what your algorithms are, what they do and how you recalibrate them jubber? Tia. | pierre oreilly
05/1/2024 07:34 | This latest flooding across the regions is bound to have an impact Expect my insurance companies to be held back in the short term but on a brighter note have recalibrated my algos and so far so good as have new targets Shouldn't laugh but The Gruniad has a photo of a house under several feet of water with a rather sorry looking For Sale board outside. Take care | ![]() jubberjim
04/1/2024 21:52 | The only problem with the MSCI trackers is that they are stuffed with the US magnificent seven. Not so good if you already have some exposure to US and don't want volatility (although the volatility has been upward so far!). | ![]() yf23_1 |
