Options include growing capital-light businesses such as defined contribution pension savings and wealth management. “Ultimately [bulk annuity deals] are a melting ice cube, they will disappear to nothing,” said Autonomous’s Crean.

Over a shorter timeline, investors are hopeful for more clarity on near-term capital returns. Some analysts think there could be scope for the new CEO to announce a share buy-back but others think the group is still more likely to put capital to work in extra bulk annuity deals. Jefferies portrays the group as “caught between a bulk and a buyback”.

Whether Simões doubles down on the bulk annuity market in pursuit of growth or puts greater stress on shareholder returns will be a key first test of his intention, investors say.

“His first port of call is to build his reputation, and his credibility with investors,” said Crean."

Again apologies for lack of http prefix

Article in FT relating to the new chap taking the helm at Lgen

My take is to wait any further developments and while the yield has dropped from 10% to nearer 8% still not a bad return truth be known.

Needs something to keep the momentum going

Where that will come from is anybodies guess and in light of the markets vagaries is open to debate.

For now will keep on holding on but hold back on any further capital expenditure

As stated previously retaining some cash in these uncertain times might be prudent.

Enjoy the end of years wind down

Good luck

Pound against Dollar and EURO has weakened.
Reports in papers suggests the Market believes our interest rates will fall sooner than expected (March) and hence a late Santa Rally.

I also think there'll be an election in May in the UK and in the Spring budget Hunt will promise tax cuts and no end of treats knowing that there'll be little time to implement such before the election and will either leave Labour with the unpalatable task of cancelling any goodies or, if the Tories win, will delay those goodies towards the end of the next Parliament.

Either way, the Market will rise in Spring.

Just me being nosy

But can I assume that the buy in price being mental would have been around the time of the failed Nat West takeover bid

Hold a few paper shares from that time fortunately not in RBS

Happier days

Have a good xmas
