Arm were a profitable business weren’t they ? Which rules them out surely ;-)

I’m not sure there will be any more businesses that can be bought small and held for many bagging anymore. Too much global competition and if they’re really good they get taken out.

What is needed is a massive market, a big moat, a profitable business model, loyal shareholders, a unique product or service and great management.

How many of them are there ?

Yachtmaster> Good thing you got out of infobank before the wave collapsed and the new management stole the funds.

They were crazy 'Pin the tail on the donkey' days in hindsight.

In the late 90s, I read about a company - Reflec, while on holiday and bought them when I got home a few days later.

They did me very well, but the craziest days price action was when someone on "show me the money"? pumped a company called Reflex and Reflec rocketed.

I’m just a boring divi collector now. Don’t remember Arthur Shaw but then there’s a lot I don’t remember.

Yep. Built my present house with proceeds of Arm, Baltimore and Infobank.

Back when anything could be hyped - anyone remember Are You Sure? (Arthur Shaw).

And one of the favourites from that time is back this last week - ARM.

I think like I said before we see this year out with another attempt at 8000 on the ftse maybe higher but the grim reality of it all will truly begin to hit in 2024 and what unfolds could be truly epic in terms of wealth destruction on all asset classes in the years that follow.

Tech boom: I remember telling people on Henscott it was all a bubble and they should switch to ARCADIA (Topshop and Burton) - it also ten bagged (taken over by Icelandic bankers who then - a few years down the line - bankrupted Iceland the country itself)

Yes was around on Etrade.

The worst part of that bubble was trying to decide whether to sell the big risers and crystallize a big CGT bill, as they would need to fall 40+% to make selling the best option. Which of course it was, given the subsequent massive falls.

Being immune from bubble excitement is easier said than done.

Interesting focus on the other thread for a change and one that many on here won’t be able to remember the tech wreck a truly crazy point in stock market history. Those that survived the slaughter would never again say it can’t go much lower lol. The hard lessons learnt about brokers,valuations,stupidity and greed and that ideas can be a very dangerous Path to follow.
The seeds for all this were planted by Mr Greenspan and his idea of kicking the can down the road has persisted ever since. Ultra low rates and quantitative easing on steroids together with always pleasing markets has bought us here and the pain of the tech wreck will visit us again albeit differently and much more devastating.

Just lookin thru my old saved BB texts, thats from 2007.
Were you on the old Etrade BB - I was doing a bubble stages thread around 2000 which I got a bit of stick for from the Nasdaq bulls.

"I hesitate to make a list
Of all the countless deals I've missed;
Bonanzas that were in my grip
I watched them through my fingers slip;

The windfalls which I should have bought
Were lost because I over thought:
I thought of this , I thought of that,
I could have sworn I smelled a rat,
And while I thought things over twice
Another grabbed them at the price.

It seems I always hesitate,
Then make my mind up much too late.
A very cautious man am I
And that is why I never buy.

A corner here, ten acres there,
Compounding values year by year,
I chose to think and as I thought,
They bought the deals I should have bought.
The golden chances I had then
Are lost and will not come again.

Today I cannot be enticed
For everything's so overpriced.
The deals of yesteryear are dead;
The market's soft and so's my head.

At times a teardrop drowns my eye
For deals I had but did not buy;
And now life's saddest words I pen
‘IF ONLY I'D INVESTED THEN!'

PS

220p looks like an obvious retreat for a while. If it wobbles around there for a month, it will be very tempting.
