Crossfire, is the drill diamond or reverse circulation because the latter consists of chips of rock which KAV conducts initial XRF and then it goes off for 3rd party assays. There is no visual to really interpret.

The KCB should give us something to hang our coats on. It's a well explored area amenable to mining.
Maybe it's the low hanging fruit that they put in the back burner waiting for a rig.

The KSZ is still purely academic.
An interesting case study, but nowhere near anything a major would want to progress given the drill missed the main anomalies. Lots of analogies to Norilsk, but a bit too much Delboy "this time next year we will all be millionaires" type stuff. Did we ever get any major hard data and FIRE results apart from the redefined models?

What he does CSSF is talk glowingly about all these different geological anomalies they find with all these different processes which build hopes up and then end up in disappointment.
Once again we are using a process that very few have used and hey presto we have some found some potential targets.

I am fed up with it all to be honest and just want them to finally come up with something to hang our coat on.

The price may have dropped today because news has leaked that the first core hasn’t visually impressed. Hopefully that’s not the case.

Only Ben knows the answer to your question Danmart2.

It just feels like there is more positivity just now especially when combined with last week's 2 x £15000 director buys.

We can only make our own interpretations of the news flow based on what we read and research but clearly in my mind there is the possibility of something very special here, time will tell. Hopefully we'll not need to wait too long.

Is this news flow due to KAVs glorious leader realising his mistake during the last round of drilling when he went silent for nearly a month and was roundly criticised by all corners?

There’s nothing commercial of the announcements so far, it’s all nice haves and promise but no actual substance.
Let’s see where this ends up after the last hole is finished in the coming weeks.

Certainly keeping up the news flow here as promised, feels more positive this time. It’s looking very promising and it seems that a lot of effort has been put into getting this drilling programme into the heart of a major discovery. Roll on the drill results.

Kavango Resources (KAV LN) 2.1p, Mkt cap £9m – CSAMT survey flown on KCB

Kavango reports that initial results from a Controlled-Source Audio Magnetotelluric (CSAMT) survey conducted over the company’s licenses on the Kalahari Copper Belt have been encouraging, with meaningful data down to a depth of 4km.

CSAMT involves transmitting a current at various frequencies in one location and measuring resistivity differences between electrodes spaced along a receiver line several kilometers from the transmitter.

The survey shows a very sharp steeply dipping geological structure/deformation zone within Kavango's PL082/2018 licence area, which is interpreted as a faulted and brecciated margin that extends down to 4km.

The company comments that the structure could serve as pathways for fluid flow and mineral mobilisation, although more testing is required to improve interpretation of geology and structure.

Yesterday, Kavango reported it has commenced drilling on the project with Hole KCBRC001 which has a target depth of up to 250m.

The hole is targeting a 100m wide anomaly that has been identified by 3 >30ppm copper pXRF Values that were spaced at 50m intervals.

The first hole is one of a maximum six planned in this current phase of exploration.

Drilling the KCB with flexibility in mind from the desk of BEN TURNEY, CEO

Dear Reader,
We’ve now mobilised our maiden drilling programme in the Kalahari Copper Belt, where our goal is to make one or more economic copper discoveries.

Our first pass will include six holes for around 1,250 metres of drilling, focusing on the Northern and Central anomalies we’ve identified on licence PL082/2018.

The work marks the first phase of up to 37,600 metres of planned drilling across 188 drill collar locations we’ve identified on four of our 12 KCB licences.

We now aim to move along at a fairly rapidly clip, thanks in part to the variable capabilities of the drill rig deployed by our contractors Mindea.

You see, Mindea is using a multi-purpose to drill PL082. This is capable of both reverse circulation and diamond drilling, allowing for great flexibility.

Now, experienced mining hands will know there are certain advantages and disadvantages to each of these drilling styles. Much of this comes down to geological setting.

At PL082, the Kalahari sands overlying our target rocks are quite thin. That means we can get down to where we want to be pretty quickly.

It’s what we do when we get there that’s really crucial.

With diamond drilling, you get a fully intact cylindrical core of rock that can provide a much higher quality of analysis once it’s split and sent to the lab for analysis. Most exploration companies would, on the whole, favour this if neither money nor time were an object and ground conditions allowed.

With reverse circulation drilling, the rock that’s drilled is also crushed and comes to the surface in the form of chips. It’s then batched up by intervals and sent for analysis in bags or boxes. Because there’s no need to keep the core intact, it’s much faster than diamond drilling and more cost effective too.

One factor in particular that also plays a part, especially in an environment like the Kalahari, is water. You need water for diamond drilling, but not so much for RC drilling.

A hybrid approach

The hard numbers tell the real story, though. It can take up to a month to drill a single 800 metre diamond drill hole, which is roughly the same amount of time it might take to drill eight to twelve 200 metre RC holes.

Now, the KCB targets we’re currently working on are not that deep. This means we can cover a lot of ground in a short period of time and get a fast but real feel for the rock types if we use RC.

Map showing the three anomalies of over 30ppm copper identified on PL082/2018, and the expended width of the Northern Zone target

This diagram shows the location of the Northern and Central zones we are targeting with our current drilling campaign
Nonetheless, if ground conditions mean we can’t use RC for whatever reason, or if we decide to go deeper into the KCB than originally envisioned, Mindea’s multi-purpose rig gives us the capability to switch to diamond drilling without any fuss.

That flexibility with the rig will make us very nimble when it comes to making day-to-day decisions about how and where to drill. Brett, our COO, has flown to Botswana for this campaign and has been joined their by Kavango’s co-founder Hillary Gumbo. Together with Fred and the team, we have everyone on sight to maximise our chances of success.

Ultimately, at this early stage of the campaign we want as much physical data as we can gather for minimal cost, so most of the work will likely be RC. But where a more complex understanding of structure is required, we can quickly switch over to diamond.

This means it’s quite possible that some of the holes we drill will be hybrid; the upper levels will be drilled out using RC, with the lower levels pulling out diamond core.

It’s a useful option to have, and one that will make the upcoming results from KCB just that bit more critical to our search for large, economic deposits.

Best wishes,
M.B. Turney

Kavango Resources PLC (LSE:KAV, OTC:KVGOF) has commenced drilling at its Kalahari Copper Belt project in Botswana.

The first hole will test the Central Zone of licence PL082/2018, a well-defined copper anomaly that is 27 kilometres in strike and contains multiple targets prospective for copper and silver mineralisation.

The target depth of the first hole will be up to 250 metres.

Up to six exploration holes are planned in the current phase.

"Each hole that we drill in the Kalahari Copper Belt could lead to a significant discovery,” said Ben Turney, chief executive of Kavango.

“Our team has done fantastic work over the last 18 months to bring us to this point and our future exploration is a simple numbers game. The more we drill, the greater the chance we have of success. Reverse circulation drilling is highly cost-effective and will enable us to cover a great deal of ground in a relatively short period of time. With so many high-priority drill targets across our portfolio, we are excited about what the coming months will bring."

Drilling is expected to complete by early November. Upon completion of each hole, samples will be sent to an internationally accredited laboratory for testing.

In parallel with drilling, Kavango is completing an CSAMT survey of up to 17 line kilometres within PL082/2018. The company's objective is to provide resolution of the anticipated anticline structure and to ensure optimal drill orientation. Future drill target locations will be finalised, based on drill data and CSAMT interpretation.

Holders here have (hopefully) assessed the risk, positioned themselves to a degree that equates to their personal risk tolerance, and put themselves in with a chance of literally hitting the jackpot. Prospects like this are very rare and it's just a case of economical viability, sound geological work, and a little sprinkle of good fortune.

It may hit, it may miss, but we've put our chips on white and that's all we can do. We've given ourselves a chance, small or large, to bear witness and partake in a life changing discovery. that's all you can do. We all need to dream. Good luck to all.

ps. £15k isn't pocket change. For all the bravado, at least he's put his money where his very busy mouth is.

Good to see some director purchases. Certainly a small vote of confidencei the near term prospects. Surprised there hasn’t been any price activity but guess it’s still a risk too far for most folks in the current market climate. Roll on a successful drill campaign at KCB.

Anyone else think this is the last chance for those of us who are in at multiples of todays price to get our money back?

The 3 scenarios

1. They strike big, both commercial quantities and some more for good measure, share price booms up, everyone goes home happy, KAV have turned the concept into reality.
Big boys come sniffing, share price stabilises around 8p into the new year and we have options including joint ventures.
I will even buy Ben the CEO a Christmas present.

2. They find some residue of metals but it’s barely commercial levels and more drilling is required.
The market has a small fall, Ben the CEO try’s to spin it as a positive again and another fund raising is required early next year.

3. They find more dirt. Share price loses another 25%. Ben the CEO try’s to spin the dirt as special dirt but everyone knows a blagger by now.
Share price nose dives below 1p, huge share issue early next year, Kav remains the jam tomorrow story it’s been since conception.
