i am glad the deal is off the table because of the risk management

and i like the bidding discipline

and i guess some other more proportional deal of smaller size and weaker seller will be better option specially in the gas pricing cycle .... which brings me to the huge gas pricing differential asia + EU vs USA + Canada

eg... US orbit gas deal would be ok because there the gas prices are halve the asian. and the discount situation can not endure. hence i am buying us centric gas with us slowly restarting production industry

Not really Tom - could be any number of reasons. If it was all about value it would have been over very quickly.

I suspect the recent increase in crude value and somewhat tightening of oil supply was a much larger factor.

Reading between the lines of Woodside's Media Release today, it would appear none of the interested parties were anywhere near Woodside's valuation of the assets.

It's the second time in three years Woodside has failed to secure bids for these assets at a price within negotiating distance of what they would be willing to sell.

MACEDON AND PYRENEES DIVESTMENT PROCESS UPDATE

Woodside commenced a process in the second half of 2023 to consider the potential for divestment of its interests in the Macedon and Pyrenees assets.

Following completion of this process, Woodside has decided to retain its current ownership levels in both assets.

Macedon continues to be a critical supply source of gas to the Western Australian domestic market and Woodside continues to see strong value in both assets.

Woodside remains disciplined and value-driven when considering any potential merger and acquisition transaction, including divestments.

Both Macedon and Pyrenees will remain within the Australian operations portfolio with a continuing focus on maintaining their outstanding safety and production performance and contribution to ensuring security and reliability of gas supplies in Western Australia.

aktara on schedule on track for 1st gas and this will catapult the share price and could come any day soon....Fabulous time to invest in here
