SA's reporting ability is going to be vastly different to Europe's as well. The townships may as well be a different country altogether.

With European countries the new case trajectory is downwards in SA it's upwards. Who's to say what the SA new cases will be in 2 weeks time.

Time will tell if SA has peaked, seems Europe peaked 2-3 weeks ago.

My guess is (and that's all it is) SA will reach the thousands of new cases/day by June.

Germany 83 deaths per million, SA just 2 per mil and Germany only has 24m more pop. Or look at Italy less than 1m more pop compared to SA yet 213,013 total cases hit and still has 98,467 active cases plus 485 deaths per million compared to SA of just 2! Yet Italy has already started to relax lockdown.

PS. Even the UK has just 8.6m more pop compared to SA yet has 194,990 total cases & 165,219 active plus 433 deaths per million.

Cyril does not have many options at his disposal. The economy has to be back up and running, the country needs the income.

Sleveen, look at Germany, active cases increased by 855 yesterday/today and deaths per 1m has increased from 71 last week to 83 today, yet they said, today life will be near back to normal there in few weeks.

Providing new cases don't start going up in the thousands in SA then don't see a problem.

So why relax the restrictions too soon?

I reckon Cyril will reimpose the restrictions. Has to given the increase in cases.

No one did.

New cases +352, active cases 4678 up from 4336 yesterday and 10 new deaths also up from yesterday.

Looks like Cyril relaxed the restrictions to early for the sake of the economy.
