i unistalled java last week as my streaming was not working on advfn now have the latest java which works everywhere but on advfn just keeps showing weak connection on advfn.rubbish

can i ask why advfn cannot handle more than a few pages running sun java... if you have level 2 and monitor lists on the go, youll be lucky if you can open up the charts page!!

I keep getting a security warning that ADVFN is using an older version of Java when I open my monitor or L2. Is there any way of stopping this?

Afternoon all,

We use software called Java to run the streaming prices on pages like Monitor, Trades, Charts and Level 2. The software is made by Sun Microsystems (now part of Oracle). Microsoft used to make a version as well, but they haven't worked on their version since 2001.

We switched off support for Microsoft Java on ADVFN today, I would highly recommend updating to the latest Sun Java via if you're having any trouble with any of the streaming prices.

Microsoft stopped developing Java back in 2001 after being sued by Sun, but a lot of websites carried on making their software compatible with it, including ADVFN.com. Although backwards compatibility is generally a good thing, sticking with MS Java limits our ability to add new features to the site, so we have now dropped support for it.

The vast majority of people will not have used the Microsoft version for 9 years or so (if ever), but some of you may find that you still have the software installed. If this is the case you will see a big grey box where the Monitor usually lives.

All you need to do to sort this out is download and install the latest version of Java from .

jAVA USED TO QUIETLY FUNCTION - THEN IT GOT THE REAL PLAYER BUG - ASKING YOU TO UPDATE SEND REPORTS ETC ETC - IF YOU DIDN'T IT SLOWED DOWN. ANY

try changing your fonts until they look better. maybee reduce your resolution to suit your monitor. if it's happening on more than 1 site, it's more likely your display properties that need tweaking.

Opera gives me checksum errors for Java charts. Boooo

On the subject of Java, I am not a techy, but now this new java has been launched (maybe it is not new forgive me), but the quality of numbering and colour on monitor is not good, I also have the same problem now with proquote.

Am I doing anything wrong??? Thanks.

I always get jam-ups after using live ADVFN charts... though they work for a while.

Have just scanned my hard drive with AVG and it's identified a virus in loaderadv657.jar-2220b06cd-7c17c70e.zip

Notice the ADV in the file name and the mention of loader. Is this a file automatically downloaded when you first log on to ADVFN and it updates the Java applet cache files?
