10/12/2008 11:29 | Cheers. Falling out the FTSE 101 for me .. appreciate the insight | markthetrader
10/12/2008 11:24 | My guess is this:- When it becomes clear a share is to be demoted, it is an obvious short term shorting target. FTSE100 Trackers for example have to sell the stock prior or immediately following the demotion. Momentum traders/quants/CFDs/ When the demotion from the FTSE100 eventually happens, the selling of the stock ends and the covering of shorts begins. Stock is bought back, and perhaps fundamentals are re-appraised and technicals are ignored. Markets over-react and there is money to be made by trend following over-reactions. Buy the rumour sell the news. The rumour is WG. PFC LMI etc. are to be demoted from the FTSE100: conclusion: open short position. The news: demotion occurs - conclusion: cover short. | dasv
10/12/2008 11:04 | can someone tell me why the share always bounces when it drops out of the FTSE 100. I mean WG. has been on the way down the whole time...the fundamentals stayed the same and yet it leaves the FTSE and bounces along with others that left the FTSE like Lonmin and Stagecoach???? | markthetrader
10/12/2008 08:46 | Oot of the FTSE, that's understood. A nice bounce this week and today starts well. If the price does track crude, and it seems it does, then which way crude is the question, not which way WG (which we know is well run and very able to grow)? On that basis I'll wait til results before buying more- I have a load anyway close to break even, GL All | silverfern
10/12/2008 07:17 | INTERESTING CHUTES01 having a rough ride with petrofac know anything there ? | harrrley
09/12/2008 19:32 | The price of WG is being tracked to the price of crude, this has led to the market cap falling such that we are out of the FTSE 100, leading to a further retrace. The consistent and large director buys tell their own story of what the value is here, contracts are being won to the detriment of Amec/Petrofac and the like. This is a Co. still in it's infantcy, there is a lot of growth to come. ADD. | chutes01
