Tui, Europe’s largest tour operator, has dealt a further blow to London’s shrinking equity market after recommending to shareholders that it cancel its UK listing next month.

The Anglo-German travel group — which reported revenues of €20.7bn in 2023, and is listed in both London and Frankfurt with a valuation of €3.5bn — said on Thursday that following investor pressure, it had decided its British listing was no longer “advantageous”.

Less than a quarter of trading in the company’s shares was now conducted in London, said Tui’s board in a statement, citing a “significant” decrease in liquidity on UK equity markets over recent years.

A bit of resistance at £13.50 but if it can break through and hold! Heading out next week on a third Jet2 trip this year. All of the flights more or less full with only a handful of empty seats. Looking forward to a trade update when it eventually comes.

Mercantile Investment Trust have bought a new position in JET2:

"Anderson has made several changes to the portfolio in recent months, including increasing the exposure to the consumer discretionary sector at the expense of industrials.

This included a new position in airline package holiday operator Jet2 (JET2), which he and Lynch had exited in 2022 over concerns about the outlook for the domestic consumer and the impact of inflation on costs.

Following evidence that the UK consumer was prioritising holiday spend and several ‘blowout’ updates from the company and its competitors, they re-entered the position in January 2023, Morningstar data shows, giving it a 1.9% weighting. While the shares have proved volatile, delivering returns of 5% since then, Anderson praised the group’s customer service and its self-investment"

The January update cancelled , April update to be brought forward into the second half of February ? Just My reading of it, happened before under Dart no need for the two updates before numbers..

I interviewed for both TUI and jet2 in the last month. I can assure you, jet2 is significantly better paid.

One of my best friends has 3 travel agency, after several years of customers booking direct covid has helped him!! customers are coming back for service, he says bookings for 2024 are at an all time high and one of the leaders in the holiday package is .... you've got it Jet 2 Holidays :-)
If this is repeated through the UK it can only be good, who knows!! I'm long so I hope he's correct:-))
