21/9/2005 15:41 | I'd guess it's the MMs who've heard the rumour & have moved the price up accordingly, I doubt it has anything to do with retail investors. | mad4it
21/9/2005 15:38 | yeah but where's the info, all bb's are quiet on it so whats driving the small pi's who've been buying this pm | abcd1234
21/9/2005 15:37 | I'd speculate it's gotta be a strong bid rumour just hitting the market. | mad4it
21/9/2005 15:23 | odd spike, but i cant find news any info as to whats driving it?? | abcd1234

18/5/2005 11:30 | Doesn't sound as though the Pentland bid is going to succeed, does it? Presumably, Madgooner, you assume that price will drop further if/when bid is pulled? | samg99
14/5/2005 16:20 | The Directors thought it worth getting out at 211.2, Says something about prospects and confidence in the future IMO. Given it'll be a private subsudiary in effect, this looks likely to drift down in medium term. Looking at possible short post offer. | madgooner
19/2/2005 01:23 | JD Sports uncovers drug connection to gift voucher scam By Caroline Muspratt (Filed: 19/02/2005) - The Telegraph Sportswear chain JD Sports has been forced to change its refund policy after it emerged criminals were using its store gift vouchers to buy drugs. Tim Edwards, the company's loss control director, said the chain had "tightened up its refund policy" and would no longer offer gift vouchers in exchange for items brought back without a receipt, after it uncovered "some fairly major fraud". Thieves were stealing goods from one JD Sports store and returning them to another, claiming thousands of pounds of gift vouchers in exchange. Mr Edwards said: "As part of the investigation we have uncovered a drug connection with some of the people bringing goods back. "The vouchers were being used as currency at 50pc of their face value to acquire drugs." A police investigation is ongoing, Mr Edwards said. JD Sports, which is owned by the John David Group, has not put a figure on the money it has lost, though a spokesman said it would have "no material effect" on the financial outlook. The scam was uncovered about four weeks ago. JD Sports makes a note of customers' names and addresses when issuing a refund as standard practice, and an investigation was launched after the company realised the same people were regularly bringing back items. Mr Edwards said that in one week, the company believed it had been defrauded of £2,000 by dishonest customers. JD Sports will now insist on a receipt, or other proof of purchase such as a credit card receipt or bank statement before issuing a refund, Mr Edwards said. He added: "We are not offering gift vouchers as an exchange." The chain is keen to reassure its customers that they will not lose out. "We are not trying to upset the vast majority of our genuine customers," Mr Edwards said. "We are trying to protect them." JD Sports has more than 300 branches in the UK and sells brands including Adidas, Lacoste, Reebok and Timberland. It also carries r&b singer Missy Elliott's Respect ME street-wear range. Chairman Peter Cowgill said last month there was "greater kudos in having a JD bag in your hand" as the chain outperformed its rivals, including JJB Sports. JD Sports reported strong Christmas trading with underlying sales up 6pc. The chain has recovered since it was forced to issue two profits warnings in 2003, blaming the disruption from buying First Sport from Blacks Leisure the year before. John David Group reported sales of £458m last year. The shares fell 1 to 264p. | m.t.glass
02/2/2005 17:42 | You here too, Alf? My target was a bit lower, in fact we've just passed it, because of the stories of mayhem and panic on the high street. The recent trading statement was reassuring rather than dazzling. Perhaps a bid - or perhaps just relief that everything seems to be going OK? | diogenesj
02/2/2005 16:25 | DJ Rumours of a bid ... apparently? Initially I did not believe my numbers, which suggested 300p by the end of May ... and delayed buying until it started moving and paid 239p. What kind of price would it take to them out? Certainly > £3. Alf | alfwilson
02/2/2005 13:25 | Lol - wonder what's up. | diogenesj
02/2/2005 13:16 | DJ - When I posted that chart in Jan 2001, the price was exactly the same as now !!!.....spooky. | chester
02/2/2005 13:11 | Hi chester. :-) This is having a surprisingly good run: I bought with some misgivings at 210p on 29 December, and here we are at 275p already. Is it just irrational exuberance, or could someone be building a stake? | diogenesj
11/5/2004 08:45 | P/W following big brother JJB. | matthewa
14/4/2004 17:26 | dunno....cracking support at 213. anything over 227 cud be a good buy. they have only just broken out resistance at 213 | big vern
14/4/2004 15:17 | I believe in what the share price tells me, all else is irrelevant! In all my years trading I've seen people swear blind that "this is a great company, share is grossly undervalued blah blah" - MFW being only the most recent example. When anyone says "this is a share to tuck away for the long term" I instinctively think "sounds as if it may be a good short" and look at the chart.... | samg99
14/4/2004 14:41 | I know lucky I dont trade shares at all isnt it:-(. I think if you dont like the business for whatever reason it is likely others dont too so might be wotrh noting??? For me I get put of by going in a shop thats nearly always empty to be welcomed by a 16 year old school leaver...going " yeah mate...what can I do for ya". But agreed it could just be personal tastes but shouldnt you believe in the business you are investing in???. | hooya
14/4/2004 14:40 | PS: So they have shops eh? (only kidding! I know they're a retailer - food isn't it? :)) | samg99
14/4/2004 14:34 | Gosh Hooya you have expensive principles! Glad I don't know anything about the shares I trade in - I'd be a lot poorer! | samg99
14/4/2004 09:01 | I wouldnt buy them on the principle that I dont like their shops. | hooya
14/4/2004 08:58 | Looks like this could be a good short given that JJB just p/w and previous set of numbers were mediocre @ best. | matthewa
06/8/2003 08:49 | old header but it fits, now undervalued. Look at PE ratio & PEG. Our existing 9 Size? stores are performing 8% ahead like for like, and a new store is now planned for this year in Leeds with conversions in Bluewater, Newcastle and Brent Cross. Size? is ideally positioned to take advantage of current trends in casual leisurewear and is a proven profitable concept. Athleisure and Open will be the other key drivers within the Fashion Fascias business and a new 24,000sq ft Open store on Buchanan Street, Glasgow will open in time for Christmas trading. | pictureframe
18/10/2002 00:04 | .....I'll put the kettle on | big vern
