The real mid price 565p. (Should show down 17p on screen.) Have been adding again on the dips. Much better dividend than interest from the banks.

Bit of an apparent plunge today , marked down 35p , though the spread has moved to an impressive 30p so prob not real.
Actually there were some automatic trade sells at 550 and a Buy at 574 .
Xd 8p 2 weeks ago so not that.

Still think this one is undervalued - as any holder would. Good yield / low p.e. Might top up - it's just the spread...............

Pre-close trading statement.

"The confidence expressed by the Chairman, Mr Geoffrey Halstead, at the Annual
General Meeting, held on 4 December 2009, was well founded. In these challenging
times, turnover and trading profit have continued to grow and will, in line with
our expectations, be higher than the comparative period."

I am told the main trading company has a new sales director, a young buck, hope he can carry on where the last one left off.
As to interim I think they will announce that with the pre close statement later this month - bound to be a March payment surely

Looking at the share price performance during a recession, wonder what will happen when the sector really moves out of the recession!

Happy New Year!

Early Interims - under consideration.

Mentioned at the AGM - possibly as a one off.

The divi. would be paid before the end of the Tax Year.

Tax advantage for some shareholders.

March is a weak divi month for me so I would welcome the change - even as a one off.

An exceedingly good company (as Mr Kipling might say)

Happy New Year.
Over £6 once again. I was wondering if the directors are bringing forward interims, (ususally end of March) as at the AGM they were discussing the interim dividend being paid before the new tax year and would annouce the decision in January.

A very satisfactory 20p rise in the share price today, especially as they went ex-div
yesterday.
Thanks for all the hard work to the staff and directors for another record year.
Happy Christmas and a great 2010 to all JHD shareholders.

I think you are spot on with the in house broker comment. No doubt it was known in advance and so no negativity in a director selling. Well thought through - as all things about this company. They go ex div on the special next week so still some upside. And with the interim coming early upside all the way.

Re Halstead family - I think it is a tad over 40% - though it is 4th generation so that is spread across 20 -30 individuals.

Wad collector- in answer to the question about the halstead family members ownership of shares.

I believe they own a large amount of shares between them, although not quite sure what percentage, last time I loooked at it it was pleenty big enougth to prevent any hostile take over.

My guess would be that they were sold to their personal broker, who
cross traded them to one of his clients, so that trade would not affect
the share price (in a downward move.)

Wouldn't mind being one of his kids as he makes a quick 40 grand on options!Interesting that the share price responds by rising!

I here that someone was wrapping up the samozas and chicken legs and putting them in the bag - was it one of you guys ?
25 January - Burns Night coincidence ?

And the FD has just sold a few but then again Christmas and he has 5 kids.

Costs being kept down by improving distribution from one centre in Oldham,
which I believe they bought for 66% less than the asking price! Very prudent.
Yet I'm always surprised JHD doesn't get a lot more positive press, as it really does put a lot of other companies, including the banks, to shame.

Yes - a good meeting.

You did well to acquire your last bundle when you did.

In Bolton library currently. Don't go home until Monday.

Watching Rovers v Liverpool today.

Halstead supply but do not install flooring. They can train overseas contractors to install if needed.

Their overseas operations appear to be sales and marketing only - not manufacturing.

They appear to have out-competed the likes of Marley partly by offering quicker delivery times.

Still a lot of R&D to keep ahead.

You could almost run a book on how long the AGM will last before the stampede to the dining tables to get a seat before the buffet is rolled out. Today's was 12 minutes, all resolutions passed, apparently the big money was on 10 minutes max. If Geoffrey H read his script a bit quicker.....

I couldn't believe how low key it all is, understated and oh by the way, here's another 15p special divi, not the RBS way these days.

I heard that the new Oldham warehouse, less than 12 months old, is to be extended. Although the share price has bounced in the last couple of months, these look a very solid bet.

All of this from a company that used to be considered very unfashionable in Europe, against bigger names in the field, like Marley, DLW and Mipolam in Germany, most of whom are practically invisible these days.

There just doesn't seem to be a downside, though I'm sure some of you can find one ;-)

15p special divi

To be paid 25th Jan 2010

Ex 23rd Dec 2009.

And cautious optimism for the coming year.

Weak pound currently helps.

Oooh!
Do the Halsteads own enough equity to prevent a hostile takeover? The bigger boys must be sniffing.
