Anyone got any thoughts on the share split. I know that the previous
times the shares have split, they have eventually gone back to the splitting price.
(Last time was 4.5 years ago.) But, is there now a case here for illiquid stock,
whereby small buys can really send up the price. (as today). Is there a limit
to how many times splitting will be effective? Just wondered what opinions were.

LHG - I think you are right about the 2004 return of capital - it was sweet and I think this firm will find a way.

bda3490.
Have a look at this RNS from 1st November 2004.

There was a choice whether to receive "Return of Capital" as either shares (CGT paid) or Dividend or a mixture of both. That would keep everyone happy IF they were to do this again.

Good point .Shame they still aren't letting us ISA these AIM shares, though there was a previous mumbling by the previous HMG.

The chart was similar last year after the results, and continued steadily upwards, albeit from a low in the high £3's. The last split was 4&1/2 years ago, and the price is back to where it was back in March 2006.

I am still "hoping" for a 10p to 15p special dividend to be announced at the AGM. Fingers crossed.

The share price graph looks more like a steeple than a roof.Let us hope it is a lean-to and not a steeple. If you see what I mean.

There is no glass ceiling on this flooring company.

I just love this company. Yet another record in Revenue and increased profits and dividend.

Record revenue increased to £186.4 million (2009: £169.3 million) - up 10.1%

Record operating profit increased to £35.9 million (2009: £32.8 million) - up 9.4%

Record earnings per 5p ordinary share of 49.7p (2009: 48.3p) - up 2.9%

Record final dividend per ordinary share proposed of 18.75 (2009: 17.0p) - up 10.3%

Record cash inflow from operations of £36.5 million (2009: £29.1 million)

Nil net gearing

Ha Ha 20p ie last years 17p plus VAT we'd all be happy with that.
A 17.5% rise seems unlikely 18.5p is probably more the level.
I think there was also a special announced in Dec 2004, it seems the AGM is the venue for such annoucemnents. I would hope they look at some kind of capital distribution as CGT is 18% and income tax - 40-60%.

The Special divi's have been declared in Dec., 2005, 2006, 2009. I agree that raw material costs may mean a tough year, and who would blame them for being prudent? (I believe if it is necessary, they will be.)
Have a look at the balance sheet when the results are published this Thursday, the 30th., and see what comments are made about the state of business in general. After all, the Halstead family, not only us ,like a special dividend!
BTW, I will be happy with a final dividend declared at around 20p.

Lol ! Results within the next fortnight. Record profits & importantly, a record dividend as well as a broker buy note ??
I am still holding onto all of my JHD shares. (I am still hoping for a special divi' at Christmas, but will have to look at the report and assess the cash in hand and at the bank.)
