31/7/2023 08:12 | A recent study found that after taking into account the energy used to capture and isolate CO2 from flue gas at a fossil fuel-burning industrial plant, the carbon capture system would reduce the plant's net emissions by only 10 to 11 percent, not the estimated 80 to 90 percent cited by proponents. | grahamwales

31/7/2023 07:48 | Oil from the North Sea goes to Rotterdam to be refined and sold on the open market to the highest bidder. So could end up the UK not receiving any of it. However they want the general public to think it will give energy security so they can pump millions into companies that run the government. Shell make billions each year yet Sunak will no doubt announce that he will give them millions more to keep drilling for oil. No difference to the mafia. | grahamwales
31/7/2023 07:24 | Mr sunak... No firm policy on green hydrogen gonna be actioned under this micro Muppet in the pocket....A Downing Street announcement said that Sunak was to "confirm that Scotland will continue to be at the forefront of UK government plans to strengthen the UK's long-term energy security", giving no further details. However, the Times reported that the prime minister will use the trip to announce the government will issue 100 licences for companies that want to extract oil and gas from the North Sea. | moontheloon
30/7/2023 16:56 | ENAP signs agreement with six energy companies to generate the largest development of green hydrogen infrastructure in the country. "Empresa Nacional del Petróleo (ENAP) took a new step to promote the development of the green hydrogen industry in the country, by signing an agreement with six international energy companies to transform the Gregorio Maritime Terminal into the largest industrial complex in the Magallanes Region and thus facilitate the production and commercialization of this fuel and its derivatives." "For RWE's country manager in Chile, Alfredo Zañartu, this agreement with ENAP, and therefore with the Chilean state, is fundamental for the development of the enormous potential that we have as a country and especially the Magallanes Region to become a world leader in the export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. "Undoubtedly, the public-private alliance, particularly considering ENAP's existing infrastructure in the region, is key to achieving this, and that is why, as a company, we are happy to participate in this agreement through our green ammonia production project "Vientos Magallánicos" located in the district of Laguna Blanca," explains Zañartu." | sonic25

29/7/2023 23:48 | So Sunak doesn’t want a green policy in the UK but happy enough to support it in India. Why doesn’t he just fk off back to India before he seriously screws up the UK. Dozens of environmental groups have warned the prime minister they will not "stand by" while politicians use the environment as a "political football". More than 50 organisations have written to Rishi Sunak expressing "deep alarm" at reports his government may water down its green commitments. They have requested an urgent meeting with the prime minister. | grahamwales

29/7/2023 09:45 | Interesting article. I'm glad the Saudis are proposing to do something useful to the planet as well themselves. One advantage, you might have thought, possessed by the climate oppressed global south... is abundant solar. Unfortunately, those that have oil will probably see huge resistance. As for Southern Europe - should be a no-brainer. I see a race to hydrogen; question will be how long it takes. | brucie5
29/7/2023 09:35 | And the reason aircraft manufacturers are being forced into alternative fuels. Kerosene will become the most expensive means to power an aircraft in the coming years, and will likely reach price parity with liquid hydrogen before 2030, new research suggests. According to a study carried out by the European Commission EU-funded Clean Sky joint undertaking and McKinsey & Company, EU regulations aimed at penalising aviation pollution will soon erase the competitive advantage of choosing kerosene over lower-carbon alternatives. Conversely, the price of liquid hydrogen, a key fuel for clean aircraft currently under development, and synthetic fuels, which will soon be mandated at EU airports, will fall precipitously, as increased supply and improvements in production and shipping see costs drop. The report predicts that kerosene will cost around $300 per MWh by 2050, a six-fold increase from the current price. The price of synthetic fuels, also known as e-fuels or power-to-liquid, is around $450 per MWh at present, though this should decrease to less than $250 by 2050. Liquid hydrogen, which trades at around $300 per MWh, is expected to reduce even more, hitting close to $50 by 2050. Liquid hydrogen is a carbon-neutral fuel source if made with green electricity, though the relative dearth of renewable energy in Europe and the lack of wide-scale demand has made it expensive to purchase at present. Sensing the market opportunity, traditional fossil energy producers in the middle east, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are turning their attention to hydrogen production. They plan to harness their vast solar energy capacity to produce green hydrogen and synthetic fuels at a lower price point. While liquid hydrogen and power-to-liquid will be cheaper to purchase from Middle Eastern suppliers at first, by 2030 European producers will have achieved parity, according to the research. | grahamwales

28/7/2023 16:07 | News from RWE Exciting news! We are starting the approval planning for a #hydrogen-capable power plant in Weisweiler, Germany! 🙌🚀 To this end, RWE has commissioned an Italian-Spanish consortium to develop a hydrogen-capable combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant with an output of 800 megawatts. A step towards green supply security that can also contribute to the goal of phasing out coal by 2030. Both the order for the power plant components and the construction are subject to the final investment decision. The political course still has to be set for this - the power plant can only be built when the grid connection and the regulatory framework have been established. | grahamwales

28/7/2023 13:14 | This has been known for a long time gw, the problem is the oil producing nations will lose their fat pay offs, governments will lose their fat taxes and companies will lose their fat cat pay and profits. We continue to reduce our need for their product as fuel, but governments and nations get put under pressure to continue until the very last drops! They have no desire in a contigency unles their fingers are in teh pie (Esso is the point in case). | wsm812
28/7/2023 13:02 | Mind blowing when you think how much energy the sun gives out and were not using it. Crazy when you imagine the sun could power the whole world, if you include wind power then the figures are even more impressive. We are missing a very big opportunity to do away with oil and gas altogether. Cost is irrelevant bearing in mind you only have that cost once to set up. The sun continuously pelts the earth with 35,000 times the amount of energy required by all of us who now use electricity on the planet! | grahamwales
28/7/2023 12:40 | Commission approves €246 million Dutch scheme to support renewable hydrogen production. "The scheme will support the construction of at least 60 MW of electrolysis capacity. The aid will be awarded through a competitive bidding process planned to be concluded in 2023." | sonic25 |
