23/7/2018 23:06 | Yes, you can disable face recognition and use a code input or turn off security altogether. However, the face id system is so good that I cannot see many people not wanting to use it. If I use my wife's phone it tries face id and after about half a second realises I'm uglier than her and asks for the code input. That works well. | horneblower
23/7/2018 22:53 | Face-ID is only the tiny tip of the iceberg of what this tech will be used for in iphones (+other phones/glasses), from an Augmented Reality perspective. The software devs will play catch up and the killer app uses will come flooding along. | averyb
23/7/2018 22:47 | I don't own an iPhone X, but I presume you have the option to disable face Id if you don't like it? Some people will always use the feature just for the improved security that it gives. If I recall correctly there's a one-in-a-million chance of somebody being able to access your phone with face id, Vs. One-in-50,000 for fingerprint id. Furthermore, there are plenty of applications in the pipeline away from smartphones such as payment systems, in-cab safety and auto-configuration features in cars, security access gates. It could be that in a few years time this tech will be so commonplace that it would seem strange not to have it on your smartphone. | chessmaster10
23/7/2018 22:34 | I’ve had an X since shortly after they came out. FaceID is excellent - faster and more reliable than touchID, and it leaves me with more screen space for the same phone size. It’s hardly a life changer but it is progress. I can’t say price was particularly a factor when I bought it and I’m not surprised the phone has been selling well, nor that FaceID is set to be rolled out more widely. Sorry I can’t offer you any comfort on this small aspect of IQE’s revenues BnB. Perhaps you should start thinking about closing those shorts again :-) | dpmeyer
23/7/2018 22:20 | My wife has an iPhone X. The face recognition is excellent. It accepts her face in a fraction of a second under almost any circs. I have to enter the passcode if I borrow her phone. Apart from hating iPhones, I would certainly use face recognition and hope that Android adopts it pronto. | horneblower
23/7/2018 22:17 | I’m waiting for the price of the newer technology to come down but would appreciate face recognition for when I’m wearing gloves for gardening or forestry work (not burglary or shorting). | hoverflyman
23/7/2018 22:06 | someuwin Have you got one? | belt n braces
23/7/2018 22:04 | With facial recognition you no longer need a fingerprint sensor so you can do away with the home button and have a lot more screen 'real estate'. | someuwin
23/7/2018 21:58 | doc1975 I do not know anyone with the iPhone X, so not sure if this technology is actually taking off as anticipated. | belt n braces
23/7/2018 21:52 | B n b - one of my friends has the iPhone X and loves the facial recognition. I think you will find it will become a hygiene factor on any decent phone. Just like air conditioning used to be open the windows. Screen rotation was once seen as a gimmick but now it’s on pretty much every phone. Face ID will be a better layer of security and is definitely better than fingerprint option for reliability. My friend is very balanced but he was very happy with the technology. | doc1975
23/7/2018 21:30 | I have an Apple Iphone, but do to have facial recognition. How many punters on this board have the phone with this new technology? In my view, what is actually the point of facial recognition as the very next movement you finger the screen? Why not just finger then finger? Could it be that this facial recognition malarky is similar to the 3d films, in that it may just be a phase that will not really cotton on? Plus the expense of this new phone, is it really worth it? So back to the original question, green tick ups from everyone that has the facial recognition phone? | belt n braces
23/7/2018 20:21 | hey Richard - normally I let "typos" go, but in this case it's too pain-full. It is Cojones that I think you are actually referring to, not kahunas. Just wanted to get that out of the way. | yankeekraut
23/7/2018 17:42 | It's not worth commenting on by TW describes himself as a climate change denier, which is the equivalent of being a self-confessed liar, or rather, someone who denies inconvenient facts. | mad foetus
23/7/2018 17:16 | can someone please let me know if IQE still provides wafers to AMS? | myshareinfo
23/7/2018 17:13 | AMS Concentrate on ALL the VCSEL business comments :-) For those with a short attention span this will do, and it’s ALL about what IQE does For the third quarter 2018, we see steep sequential growth as we are ramping very high volume smartphone sensing solutions and our other end markets continue their positive contribution. Based on available information, we expect third quarter revenues to grow strongly to USD 450-490 million, up 78-94% sequentially and 46-59% year-on-year. This expected development reflects the ramp-up nature of the third quarter as production and shipment volumes in our consumer business continue to expand. Driven by these large scale consumer ramps, we currently expect a record level of revenues for the second half of 2018. Sweet- don’t forget H2 for IQE will also include NEW revenue flows from NIL and GAN on Silicon ( small to start.....then exponential) S | sweenoid
23/7/2018 17:10 | TW wouldn’t understand the implications of much even if it hit him in his face, he’ll just post anything bearish and then try and tie it into something vaguely relative for his cause. Same old same old | richardc77
23/7/2018 17:07 | hxxps://ams.com/-/07 Looks like a good news on the horizon. | myshareinfo
23/7/2018 16:54 | Thank you B&B and Picobird. Difficult to understand the implications if any. Seems the tie up is more R & D than anything else. | bocase
23/7/2018 16:48 | Bocase Analyst: Sebastian Hou of CLSA Tiawan Report on Win Semi describing quarterlies as "disastrous" | belt n braces
23/7/2018 16:48 | BnB Win semi is an independent company & does not produce vcsel related products for IQE. There is a memorandum of understanding between the companies. IQE outsource to WIN. Looks like less subcontract work will be done in Asia on behalf of IQE as the NIL technology is enabling ‘in house’ work. Quite a saving....no round journey to the Far East. | picobird |
