14/4/2017 17:18 | Sweenoid: the point I was making is that graphene has suddenly started moving towards commercialisation on a number of fronts, and the widely-held view that it is years away from practical applications is now yesterday's news. Agreed, the production of single-layer graphene remains elusive and confined to the lab, but few-layer (<10 layers) applications are easier to handle and have staggering applications especially in strengthening composite materials like carbon fibre, screen printing electronic circuitry with graphene inks and graphene membranes for filtration and battery technolgy. You'll see the stuff popping up everywhere, perhaps starting in F1 this season. The future applications for IQE perhaps lie in photonics (VCSELs) and super-capacitors in conjunction with solar. Exciting times lie ahead. PS Being allergic to Nespresso, I've spent the day lying under the boat getting covered in antifouling. | shavian
14/4/2017 12:22 | I've just taken the dog for a walk, but that pales into insignificance beside the mention of someone having a Nespresso. WOW ! I was wearing a North Face outer - does that count ? ;-) | yump
14/4/2017 09:11 | Shavian- graphene has huge potential, but that's been the case for many years, my son worked on it during his time at Manchester uni, so I have some knowledge.its monetising the opportunity that is the problem, it will come, but just like IQE 2-3 years ago the whole graphene 'industry ' is in a long R+D and CAPEX growth phase. Meanwhile all that R+D and CAPEX spend is now paying off for IQE - consider the hyper scale data centre growth that is fuelling our photonics business.we should keep a careful eye on all the companies in this area to monitor whether growth is continuing or stalling It was very heartening to see AAOI issue a PROFITS WARNING ahead of its results this week :-) IQE are sailing on a tsunami that is metro and data centre growth that IMHO is going to be huge for years to come Study the detail of their announcement and try to understand the implications for us As for the share price , shaking out the weak holders and stop loss boyo's is great for me , I can see past a few p drop, seeing it as a great opportunity when good news is around the corner By the way, any company based in AAOI's hometown has Gotta do well...surely ;-) SUGAR LAND, Texas, April 12, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. (AAOI), a leading provider of fiber-optic network products for the internet datacenter, cable broadband, fiber-to-the-home and telecom markets, today announced certain preliminary unaudited financial results for its first quarter ended March 31, 2017. “We delivered another strong quarter with our top and bottom-line results expected to exceed our guidance,” said Dr. Thompson Lin, Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. founder, president and CEO. “Our results were driven by continued robust demand for our market-leading datacenter products and solid execution. We are pleased with our momentum and look forward to sharing the additional details of our first quarter performance on our conference call in May.” A nice little summary here, most of the companies mentioned we of course supply Home made hot cross buns in the oven, nespresso coffee ready, have a good Easter everyone S | sweenoid
14/4/2017 08:17 | Going back to Sweenoid's good summary at Post 1900, I note that he does not mention graphene. Nor has anyone else on this thread. IQE is certainly experimenting with graphene, although you have to search for the word on the website (go on, do it) Graphene has the potential to disrupt almost every industry and technology on the planet and we should really get wise to the speed at which its commercialisation is developing behind the scenes. For example in VCSELs, where IQE has such a lead, someone will soon use graphene to replace very expensive indium. I hope that IQE is that someone, otherwise this lead could be lost very quickly. To get some idea of what graphene could do, look at the series of videos on this website. The third one in is rather dry, but he gets around to indium replacement just before the end. It's worth persevering , and you might learn something along the way. PS: if you want to monetise this new knowledge, have a look at VRS | shavian
13/4/2017 22:23 | toptrump1: I have sent you a message re ATC. | vatnabrekk
13/4/2017 16:22 | Looks like my insurance stop will get hit next week (: | toffeeman
13/4/2017 13:15 | rivaldo, as things are a little quiet, I'll take the opportunity to thank you for all the great links you post on various BBs, not just IQE. You and I seem to have almost identical portfolios judging by the number of times you appear on shares I am holding. Once again, thank you and have a great Easter. | crazycoops
13/4/2017 12:47 | I don't remember this being posted from Tuesday - Canaccord have increased their price target to 69p (from 51p): | rivaldo
13/4/2017 12:20 | You sound a little nervous. | big7ime
13/4/2017 12:11 | Very brave! Good luck with that | big7ime
13/4/2017 11:55 | Bigtime, fwiw Ime about to add another chunk Soon ! | grity
13/4/2017 11:55 | The price was driven down mainly by the large hedge funds, expecting the directors to run the normal game, sell a large percentage of options to cover the cost of buying and tax, thereby expecting the share price to drop lower yet, the game changed!!! If anyone had known what the directors were going to do, the price probably would not have been pushed so low - the after affect when everyone (well those who understood) starting buying back in was for the price to quickly move up 30%. Of course the other reason for the share price being pushed down was one large investor who did not understand what he was invested in and decided to believe another company's PR department and dumped all his holding (if I recall 38m shares). Turned out to be a bogus reason!! | adventurous
13/4/2017 11:51 | I kinda hope it triggers to, sweet dreams. | poombear
13/4/2017 11:47 | Am off to bed (obviously don't live in europe). Kinda hope it triggers. Can't convert my profit anyway because of the thick brits and their brexit fiasco | shanieboy01
13/4/2017 11:41 | Must have hit your stoploss by now Shanie, was at 66p the other day, now 61p. Not that I'm uninterested in your stoploss...... | poombear
13/4/2017 11:38 | 83% of statistics are made up on the spot! ;) | big7ime
13/4/2017 11:36 | Birth = north lol | shanieboy01
13/4/2017 11:35 | Because they will manipulate this birth again. | shanieboy01
13/4/2017 11:23 | 90% of Private investors lose money. That's an amazing statistic. | toptrump1
13/4/2017 11:13 | Sweenoid - my take on the current position is that fundamentals do not currently matter until they do. I daresay as with last week’s geo political events bringing us incrementally closer to a moment when the market will suddenly care. For now, the sellers STILL lack the firepower and follow-through even as buyers fail to to reignite lost momentum. Shane, what's your stoploss? I don't think you'll see 20, maybe 45 Anyway-why would you want it back after all you've said? | big7ime
13/4/2017 11:03 | Lol a slight pull back was always on the cards. I wouldn't worry, was dropping last week roughly 5% to only push back up. All normal | lucas5950
13/4/2017 11:00 | Someone call? My top up was actually at 19p I seem to recall most speculation was that the fall was EF selling in knowledge of the deal, bad times. | big7ime
13/4/2017 10:59 | Plummet about to start. Think I may be about to say bye. It was fun. I may buy back about 20p (hopefully). This was masterclass of a pump and dump by the mms | shanieboy01
13/4/2017 10:38 | toptrump1 - oh for heaven sake, get your facts right: it caused the shares which were at rock bottom to rebound to where we are now, myself and many others topped up big time when they dropped sub 15p. Share price the day when IQE directors pulled one out of the top draw was: Oct 10th 2014 - low 12p. (yahoo historic) although I recall they were a fraction lower. Oct 10th 2014 - Deal is done: Dr Drew Nelson entered into a share sale and repurchase agreement with Equities First Holdings (EFH) on 10(th) October 2014 for a total of 18 million existing shares, raising a total of GBP1.865 million before commissions of GBP55,944. He is obligated to repurchase all these shares at the end of a three year term, ending on 10(th) October 2017. The price at which he is required to repurchase the shares is 11.4 pence per share. Share price has only gone up from then on!!! By the end of Oct 2014 they were 16.5p. | adventurous |
