02/6/2013 11:55 | orslega 2 Jun'13 - 11:08 - 752 of 759 0 0 gadolinium - take your point, however, taking my example, search blinkx in main USPTO site and up pops said patent straight away...when Iofina are granted their patent, expect it also to be easily viewed (by competitors who will be watching closely)and after all it is public information available to all.. now whether they RNS it is another matter but I would expect to see it... -------------------- Generally what you say is true but only if the assignee is disclosed. Blinkx disclose themeselves as the assignee on their patents and applications, hence easy to find their three granted patents. Iofina do not, hence their patent activity is hidden (I think under the radar is the expression). The granted patent referred to in post 748 makes no mention of the assignee, but here's a clue: the patent attorney docket number in PAIR has the prefix IOF! Anyway enough of this, we will have to see what happens. | ![]() gadolinium

02/6/2013 11:28 | Just read the GH article when I stopped Sunday chores for a cuppa. This Fame & Fortune section often throws up some hidden gems that get a mention. I'm sure there are many others who like me read it to unearth tips and of course always reassuring to see your shares mentioned favourably without any prompting from the interviewer.. | ![]() tommy51
02/6/2013 11:27 | Here is the relevant part of the on line Sunday times article. "What's been your best investment? Iofina, which produces iodine [the chemical has a wide range of uses, including medication and photography]. It has found a new and cheaper way of producing iodine in America. We bought when the share price was 30p, and today it is 247p [an increase of 723%]. It is one stock that has served me well." | smilingmickey
02/6/2013 11:23 | I find it hard to believe it's GH's best investment of his career, but like sg i think it WILL be his best investment of all time. j. | ![]() jonnyno1
02/6/2013 11:21 | Ors re the patent, I think it's a given, but even if pothers came up with new tech IOF have been extremely busy gaining contracts and brine leases in the best area's. It took 5 years for IOF to master the new tech, others haven't even bothered trying, so it's a long road for them to produce anything like what IOF have. They why bother, as how do you beat the industry's lowest cost opex, and zero emissions. It's such a niche market that it would almost be pointless. Which reminds me of a point Supreme MO has mentioned... Iochem. When Iochem and co did their deals decades ago, they P'd off the land owners and ripped them off. there are articles on it from way back. In short the very nice guys at Iofina have now appeared giving them decent deals and long term revenue, from a US owned company, not Japanese. | ![]() superg1
02/6/2013 11:20 | Yes SG - nice find by Vulcan - looks like an interesting next few weeks | pcjoe
02/6/2013 11:13 | PC Vulcan found the MSCI entry and it's been explained that such entry forces some to be 'properly weighted', with the suggestion of a 700k buy needed. Late reports showed 2 buys amounted to 715k shares. It's a case of a bit of digging now to fully understand what impact, entry onto that index has. Initial digging suggests more buy volumes will appear over the next few weeks related to that event. We are due a run of news at some point over the weeks and months re the patent, water rights, commissioning of plants, helium and Oil interest etc etc. The AGM may well see the start of another run of presentations. Water rights news of course would cripple stand alone short positions. I keep mentioning the patent, as I believe news around that, would affect 'things'. From 1987 So any non US iodine operator will have a tough time getting brine leases imo. They'd get the same answer as BB trolls would get when asking for a cup of sugar. Two words, two vowels, and plenty of F's. | ![]() superg1

02/6/2013 11:05 | Monday will be interesting with Iofina mentioned in the times paper and the addition of Iofina to the MSCI index! | hurricane.
02/6/2013 11:03 | Forgiven Noli - re the volume spike - Reckon SG might have hit the the Nail with the MCIS listing - Interesting to think that a fund manager might be able to invest in the MCIS indice constituents within his currently favourite sectors & charge for active management ( active blind guessing on sectors more likely with some of them) - I reckon even I could do that for 2 or 3% a year - preferably from the banks of the River Tweed or some Carribean beach! Excuse the minor bitterness - Long term if long past victim of Standard life endowment policy performances Still dont know the basis of IOF selection for index - just random? - anyone know? EDIT Yup - MSCI it is.... | pcjoe
02/6/2013 10:53 | Another one... Arysta couldn't make the alva plant work commercially but we can - just shows how good our kit and processes are. .. | ![]() supreme mo
02/6/2013 10:53 | Out of curiosity I just had a look on the US patent office Patent Applcation Information Retrieval (PAIR) site at the last Iofina patent of which I am aware to be granted. This patent concerns an in-line mixing apparatus for iodine extraction (I am not going to disclose the patent numbers or dates of issue). Precisely one month elapsed between payment of the issue fee and the issue date. Although Iofina are not disclsed as the assignee on this patent I am very confidant that it is an Iofina patent from other information. | ![]() gadolinium
02/6/2013 10:50 | Interesting link Vici OK is only 80 miles from Alva (where IO2 is) - the article talks about NW OK which is where we are... Note the ppm quoted there as 300-400 ppm... very reassuring. | ![]() supreme mo
02/6/2013 10:27 | Sorry PC, i should have said fund size in my post, it just goes to show the quality of investment in iof, many more still to come imho. It would be interesting to know why such a spike in volume on friday, that was a lot of volume for entering another listing, cant remember who posted it. | ![]() noli

02/6/2013 10:17 | So it wasn't a tip then, just a mention in an interview. Good exposure all the same, but not the same as a tip, although I have always believed tips appear when all the city boys already have their positions, so maybe not a bad thing. | ![]() diggulden
02/6/2013 10:09 | Orslega, I note Blinkx dont actually identify the patent in their RNS, they just state its granted. That is my point really, since (unusually) Iofina don't identify themselves on the patent applications as the assignee, I don't expect them to identify any granted patents to their competitors in an RNS. | ![]() gadolinium
02/6/2013 10:04 | GH could have said more '..it will be my best investment when I expect the price to be twice what it is now by the end of the year' but of course he can't ramp like that. In the same token he would look foolish (or worse) if he mentions a share at its peak - always leave 10% for the next man (FDR?) Incidentally he mentions a couple of other stocks with caveats as to the level of risk. | ![]() backwoodsman
02/6/2013 09:55 | Well I know for sure he didn't understand IOF until a couple of months back. Like us he probably see's it as a better investment now than at 30p. 30p was well after we had been posting a lot of research on here, and then discovered just how many read these threads. I'm sure he is well informed about IOF, with a guy or two that know IOF well, 'at his side', keeping him up to date. On the water '3 months to rights given' comment we are nearly 1 month into that now. The original application was 19th March. I'm wondering due to the mess created by the null entry mistake on that application, whether they will post the new application online (I doubt they will). | ![]() superg1
02/6/2013 09:39 | SG1, Hargreave states he bought IOF at 30p. When answering the question: "What's been your best investment?" Hargreave mentions an increase of 723% in IOF. However, it is quite possible, and I think highly likely, that he will have had greater percentage gains on other investments. It is the short time that IOF has taken to give him that return that will influence his answer. His IRR on IOF will be much greater than the IRR on other investments that have made greater gains, but over a much longer period. | ![]() greatgiginthesky
02/6/2013 09:25 | looks like 1.2% of Fund size Noli (601.5 million)= about £7.2 million plus in IOF at 31/5 2013 | pcjoe
02/6/2013 09:24 | It will be the best investment he ever picked. My curiosity lie's in when he spotted it. I'm just curious as a 'few' seem to have followed particular shares, I think you will find they have an interest in/looking at FUM too. That job advert has had me puzzling over io3. the advert is current with the aim to build 3 more plants by the year end. We were waiting for the build start of io3, but from that Ad, I take it io3 is already being built. Io4 to 6 could therefore be the 3, with io4 said to be a few weeks behind io3. It will be interesting to hear what is said at the AGM re io3 to 6. | ![]() superg1
