06/10/2013 10:56 | US overtaking Russian oil and gas production . Fracking As the shale revolution hits full stride, largely thanks to hydraulic fracturing or 'fracking', the United States is on the verge of eclipsing Russian oil and gas production. Total US oil and gas output in the United States this summer was roughly 22 million barrels/day, which beats Russia's 2013 forecast average of 21.8 million barrels/day, according to the Wall Street Journal. In 2012 US natural gas output was higher than Russian production for the first time in three decades. Some US state legislatures have been more accepting of fracking than others. California recently passed legislation to regulate the development of its shale reserves, the largest in the nation, while New York State has yet to lift a ban on the practice | ![]() jointer13
06/10/2013 10:30 | certainly the SQM brokers have got it wrong...SQM shareholders will be getting anxious with 50% share price reduction in last year..putting pressure on SQM BoD and now realisation - Zacks Rank: 5-Strong Sell | orslega
06/10/2013 10:06 | Thanks ors re 'Exactly while we're going to do that or not, we don't want to make it public, because it will go against us' Well we know that answer it is because some mining locations were near there end of life with rising opex, hence the whole point of the move for those mines to a new area. That answer given in the conference call about sums it up. I hear they have closed them. So we have this comment v rumour-: "I was concerned, but according to information provided by SQM, the project is still ongoing," Skewes told BNamericas, adding that the expansion is expected to boost potash production to 2.3Mt/y by the end of 2014. Guesswork now, have they expanded, or have they closed mines. The conference call answer doesn't exactly fill SQM investors with confidence imo. | ![]() superg1
06/10/2013 08:58 | Oh anyone heard if SQM have shut two old mines which through depletion are not economical. I know from some time back the big spending was partly to do with moving to new locations The suggestion is 3000 mt has gone offline. Must check if an analyst has them as a buy. SQM opex for products is offset as they produce iodine and nitrates in the mining process but Potash took a big hit. That has knocked back their expansion plans. We'll see what they say in their next update. This is what was said at the end of August-: The planned expansion of Chilean non-metallic and fertilizer firm SQM's (NYSE, BCS: SQM) potash operations in the northern Atacama salt flats is expected to continue despite the recent hiccups in the market, according to BICE Inversiones analyst Leonor Skewes. "I was concerned, but according to information provided by SQM, the project is still ongoing," Skewes told BNamericas, adding that the expansion is expected to boost potash production to 2.3Mt/y by the end of 2014. | ![]() superg1

06/10/2013 07:21 | I see the mention of the BOD team and the mention that some know each other. We know the CFO and CEO have worked together before, look a bit deeper and you see-: Jeff Ploen 62 yrs Education University of Wyoming George Lantz 62 yrs Mr. Lantz has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Industrial Management from the University of Wyoming, USA. I had heard they have known each other for a long time, they went to university together. This team know each other well. | ![]() superg1

05/10/2013 12:41 | Just to refresh my memory of N3L's stock picking skills..... N3tleyLucas 7 Jun'13 - 10:57 - 1168 of 9578 0 2 Yes indeed SHONNY, I fear a disheartening summer slide here, followed by a shocking interim set of results. My 75p target may prove to be wildly optimistic by the end of year, even 40p may seem high, 20p looks about right. | ![]() steveolds
05/10/2013 12:16 | SG: 'potential other water news' that's got me thinking. Atlantis perhaps? Permit application for ND? Time for another cryptic clue please :-) | engelo
05/10/2013 12:09 | naphar 9572 "GL was a founder and VP o Voyant which was taken over for 20x original investors money." Just to add Gary was in this too so they have an established track record of working together successfully. For my money the current BoD, plus LB attached securely as a consultant in charge of iodine sales (critical atm imo), is now looking a very solid team, well equipped for the boom times around the corner. | engelo

05/10/2013 09:57 | I would like to see them purchase 50 thousand shares each naphar.... wonder what the reaction would be then? :) | the librarian
05/10/2013 09:28 | I don't know Lib, but GL bought his shares pre IPO I believe so I don't expect they cost too much. And it's not about the salary they are on but their general wealth, which of course I know nothing about except that GL was a founder and VP o Voyant which was taken over for 20x original investors money. Of course I probably make assumptions I shouldn't so I'll leave it there. | ![]() naphar

05/10/2013 03:55 | Dorset - you then have to add up all the posts he made under his other usernames. Easy averaging nearing 40 comments a day for two years. And the dork still complains on these boards when somebody points out what a pathetic existence that is! I'm envisaging the Gluttony bloke at the start of Seven albeit with a little less class, dignity or dinner party chat. | ![]() albany30
04/10/2013 23:55 | What if they only bought 10k? Would that impress? How many would they need to buy to make a statement. Seen it lots of times on other shares (don't mention fum :-)) where directors buy and it's seen as a pathetic attempt etc; as when Chris Fay bought his. On the salaries that IOF pay can they afford to buy? | the librarian
04/10/2013 23:39 | Croc, yes he owns some, but it's not many is it! Would be good to see both GL and GG buying some. I can't work out the closed period thing. Not so long ago CF was able to buy. The water permit progression is in the public domain, we know its happening and can see the progress in the public domain. Of course there could be something stopping them that has cropped up since CFs purchase, some new director buys would be good to see at the first opportunity though. | ![]() naphar
04/10/2013 23:20 | Riki, It was mentioned at the presentation last week that George Lantz the CEO is already a share holder. Also as SG has mentioned, there are a couple of reasons why they may be in closed period. | ![]() croc8 |
