Wow, a reply to a genuine question with a genuine answer gets a thumbs down. Weird.

Howdy Netters, Sorry reply is tardy, since the storms a month or so back we've had a terrible internet connection, thats rural life for you. Anyhow in regard to the short term loan facility to cover the value of incoming receivables, i cant prove it with documentation, but I put the question to the company and the short term loan facility was confirmed in the reply.

Remember this little belter? Senser - age of panic. Going back a good 20 years mind.

I believe the laast thing any of us here need is a bid for IOF. The share price is way undervalued and it will recover as production ramps up and the resulting costs come dowm . (as competitors costs are increasing).
We should see increasaes in production fro this month onwards.
Hopefully,by now, there should be a plan on how to divert brine to the under utilised locations. I do not know how long this will take, or if any "paperwork" will be required, but I hope we should have some news on this in two or three months.
It must be the sea air, but I am begining to get excited again about the prospects here and long term future.
We talk about production, but we also have the chemcal operation who will greatly benifit from our low cost production and I am all for adding value to our iodine.
SG, and others have revealed problems of our competitors, news on water next month and the prospects for oil are looking more iteresting as exploration comes closer to IOF acerage.
Everyting in the garden is not rosy, but IOF have a wonderful opportunity and we should see increasing revenues over the coming months. As these revenues increase, we will see IOF back in favour and the share price should start to motor.

Mister Big - hope you have got your ticket for the Wolf of Wall Street speaking live at the London ExCel 28th May . If times are tough after your vacation / Paris and loan to IOF let me know and I'll forward on the Groupon voucher - gold seating price reduced from £129 to £99 . Every little counts and cheap for 3.5 hours of inspiration .

Having a relatively small bank OD facility to meet s/t c/f problems is hardly an official secret Festario lol. Now if it's true that's fine, it's just that I haven't ever seen it mentioned in the accounts.

So I would still require documented evidence of this. If you don't want to post it then I'm sure a blue that has not got me filtered could kindly send me it via PM and I'll acknowledge it as true here.

In fact if it is true then it suggests the banks are becoming more confident in IOF, and could lead to proper credit lines once profitability is established.

Bogg1e is correct N3.Please be aware that we do not all share what we know about IOF on here, for reasons of protecting what remains of our investment.ADVFN has become a much less suitable medium of sensible information exchange.

nixonpaul,

I respect Bogg1e very much, so I feel I can ask him for clarification in what I regard as quite an appropriate manner. He could be right of course, in which case I'll acknowledge and thank him most graciously.

I don't take kindly to your aggressive tone Paul, when it is clearly uncalled for.

In future can you please keep your big fat mouth shut when a post is not directed at you. Manners.

Boggle,
an acquirer from one of the industry stalwarts isn't going to be that interested in IOF's cash position.

They will be more interested in the opportunity TO THEM.

Our value in a takeover lies in the patents we have, the knowledge, technical know how and relationships we have with the O&G players, the leases and 100 sites we have now to exploit and the opportunity to become the lowest cost producer of volume iodine production in the world.

Our competitors have plenty of cash available to expand via IOF - 100 potential plants - and will look long term.

Just imagine a competitor such as the Japanese taking over IOF.
They would plan to do 12-15 plants a year and grab the opportunity fast in doing so.
An escape route from the declining gas fields in Japan or an opportunity to mitigate risks in Chile and produce on the doorstep of big customers in the US.

Makes a lot of sense - we have proven the technology works and tied up the best leases - either a takeover or a JV with us is bound to happen sooner or later.

Some Chile power points to demonstrate how the 150 litre water law could seriously impact SQM who use well over that amount.

Surging power prices

Chile's President Michelle Bachelet plans to build a third natural-gas import terminal and step up incentives for renewable projects in a bid to rein in surging power prices in the top copper-producing country.

A report from 28th April

The SEIA also reported the average cost per MW of energy for Chile's central grid, the Central Interconnected System (CIS) was US$213.2 per MWh, a 55% increase from prices last month and the highest from since July 2013. This increase is due to thermal power stations affected by lower reservoirs, from low rainfall and thaws.

Chile miner Antofagasta comment on the cost of seawater

Seawater will take up 30% of their power use (pumping stations), capex $300 mill. Forecasts for a project for this year.

'Water scarcity in Chile is also an issue, he noted. The company is seeking to address this by pumping sea water to mines such as Esperanza. While the sea water is basically free, the energy cost involved in pumping up the water is notable.

Antofagasta has committed about 40 megawatts or a third of its 120 megawatt of power generation capacity to pump sea water 140 kilometers inland and up 2,200 meters to Esperanza, Barma said.

The cost of building that infrastructure was about $300 million'

The carbon tax includes sulphur dioxide, so it the main it relates to coal power stations as coal contains sulphur.

When speaking to IOF they said their methods can range from zero emissions to very low emissions.

The SQM method (plus no doubt other Chile folk) includes burning sulphur, to intentionally produce sulphur dioxide. :-)

So the FUT tax evasion has gone, corporation tax to go up and now carbon tax which would seem to affect Chile iodine production processes.

Roll on the new water laws.

EDIT

from the SQM website

'Part of the iodate in the solution is reduced to iodide using sulfur dioxide, which is produced by burning sulfur'
