Incorrect

Shorts provide liquidity to the markets.

Shorts is just like hedging. The world will not exists if there was no hedging, e.g FX, interest rates, commodities.

You need hedging for anything. In other words, you need someone to take an opposite position.

Money is not created by magic, unlike most idiots think. You need market participant if you are long, so you need others to take shorts position.

Just interested BR, don't be so defensive. I am against shorting but interested to see how you do as it does appear the easiest way to make money selling something you dont hold

why are you guys so kind to Mr Big? did he not savage your holdings and then he turned long.

and now he got what he did to others. I am sure any good trader understand that it comes with the trade. Losing 1.2M+ here most probably would not have finished him, he would more peanuts to trade with.

When I take hits, I accept it gracefully. But to survive you must have many good wins than the big hits.

If you bought at anything above the close price today that's simply not true. Anyway its not important!

Until you sell you haven't lost anything, your investment maybe considerably reduced in value but you haven't lost anything because you didn't have it in the first place.

Hopefully his, like mine, is only a paper loss which I don't consider a loss. I had no intention of selling for a few years anyway, by which time I still believe Iofina will have sorted out their teething problems, have many plants up and running and the share price will look nothing like today.

Precisely Elbillo, I haven't lost a thing today. My portfolio is looking terrible but I don't see how a company with a patented technique like this can not be made a success of. It may be that we are taken over by someone with more cash which would inevitably be at a much lower price than many of us would have hoped for, but it has to be considerably higher than 23p, so today's prices are a bargain and I certainly don't intend to sell now.

As for Mr big, he's suffering an even greater loss so he has my sympathies. Luckily for him he is in a position to average up or perhaps help the company in some way. Hope he has plans.

masurenguy, mister big maybe proved right over a 6 month, 3yr or 5yr period..

Exactly the only people who have lost anything today are those who sold, time may tell us they were correct if the price goes lower, but nobody knows what it will be in 1 2 3 4 5 years time.
Took a punt today hopefully a 5 year view winning one.

Mr Big

Been taken to the cleaners more than 1.2M paper lost.

I suppose he can live with that.

Was he not shorting this share at one point?

whilst it prob was the ideal buying opp today, I didn't have enough time to research enough. You see I like to research before committing funds as opposed to blindly throwing money in. What do you know about IOF? Seems to me like it's been oversold and could bounce back, The cash position looks worrying though, is it just a delay?, I could live with that, 6 more plants coming on this yr, are they still going ahead? Price of iodine has fallen but their margin is better than other producers I gather, how important is the water permission? if they had more cash I'd have bought I think, if it falls much further I will have a punt. The other thing that puts me off is that they operate in the US. Not many British co's do well across the pond and the yanks love to bash us. Will prob be an anonymous blog report next to kill it for good and protecting their home companies.

No posts from Mr Big.. hopefully he is too busy giving the BOD an earful...Some say he is a fake but it's hard to see how he could predict a day in advance that Arron Banks was about to declare a notifiable holding?!?! (Look back at the posts)If somehow he had inside information and was impersonating AB then I would have expected that AB would have seen it in that daily mail article talking about him, and sued the feller's a*se off... and yet he kept posting all the way through to yesterday...Not out of the question, but I think the chances of Mr Big being an impostor are very low.Of course even Mr Big apoears to have got it wrong on this one!

If you are for banning shorting should there also be a ban on leveraging on cfd's and spreadbets which arguably does as much damage?

mister big - 17949: i said i had bought 2.5m in last few days ( feels like a shooting gallery here!!), hence , if i have gone over 3% the notification will be on its way.

RNS Number : 9017D: 02 April 2014: Iofina plc
Iofina PLC ("Iofina" or "the Company") (AIM: IOF) today announces that it received notification on the 31 March 2014 from Arron Banks that he is interested in 4,021,000 Ordinary Shares of 1 pence each in the Company, representing 3.16% of the issued share capital of Iofina.

mister big - 18036: an investor must have conviction and ignore the crowd. At £2 a shares the company was the same as it is now at 52p , just perception has changed. At 52p , its a roaring buy because the fundamentals are unchanged.

mister big - 18231: Iofina is a company that should be worth £500M in 5 years time!

mister big - 18243: I think a valuation of £300m in three years is possible, given the disruptive nature of the business and its radically lower cost base. So I see the following; 1000 MT - 2014 ( run rate), 1750 MT - 2015, 2500 MT - 2016 and then you are back to the magic and ridiculous £2.50 it was selling for last summer , three years to get 2.50 , shares purchased at 54p average,

mister big - 03 Apr 14 - 18344: Hovered up another 400,000 today at over 60p, so i'm voting with my feet.... target 1.25p in six months or so

mister big - 6 Apr'14 - 18445: I'll take 1.20 invested at 51p! Over three years that's good enough

mister big - 18382: if Mr Market lowers the price i will be all over it again - i think the bad news is out and the next few announcements will confirm the story intact..... 85% on the water permit which is an added bonus and not in any calculation

mister big - 19 Apr'14 - 19248: I value iofina £1.25 without water or in fact oil possibilities. The company is producing iodine from 5 plants and iof 6 scheduled to go online before end of 2nd quarter.

mister big - 19339: The main issue here is people that over paid for stock. I believe fair value is around £1.25p.

mister big - 19354: In respect of iofina they will kitchen sink results and the price will either fall or rise , if it drops below 50 I will buy more - iodine is a nice market that will do well next couple of years.

mister big - 19391: my cheque book is open and waiting for another reload !

Arron has been a chatty fellow over the past few weeks regaling us with his Caribbean adventures and his views on IOF. However he has been very strangely absent today !
