02/4/2014 15:05 | The wonders of AIM - sold GDL 15.5p 6 months ago to buy into these based on evidence of these being a much better investment and after much BB promotion and research.Currently 60% down on IOF and would have been marginally up on GDL if I'd stayed put. Just shows how unpredictable things can be and how estolling off the virtues of one company and denigrating another can be so wrong... eh Superg1 | ![]() highly geared

02/4/2014 13:30 | Earthquakes and Inventory IOF have known for some time they would have iodine to sell in the open market. They have a network of contacts developed over many years so when they have sufficient inventory they will be in a position to go to those buyers and bit by bit build market share. If I had a supplier of x amount of product from say Chile I wouldn't ditch them over night and go to a new supplier before their product was proven to me in terms of quality and reliability of supply. The seismic activity in Chile and the uncertainty of supply with water and energy issues and the new Government (increase in Corporation Tax)and the slow dawning that IOF is a low cost player on my door step might make me begin to wonder if I should consider another supplier. As my confidence grew with the new supplier I would be keen to move more of my business to them especially if I was a USA company buying from a USA provider. Good price, surety of supply and quality, problems dealt with quickly all make for an attractive option. It takes time to build inventory and it takes time to build buyers and market share. IMO both will continue to happen, we know IOF have already made their first external sale or is it sales. IOF are clearly working hard on this. | ![]() ansana

02/4/2014 12:43 | Today just proves my theory that one should sell all ones IOF shares everyday at 10am, and buy them back at 4.15pm.I would have been a rich man had I done that over the last 12 months. | ![]() festario

02/4/2014 12:28 | The quake today will take time to surface re any disruption but to get a flavour here is the news re a similar one in 2010, and gives an idea of what they see as the risk points, power and the road network getting a mention. | ![]() superg1
02/4/2014 12:26 | I always remember David Brent from The Office musing;'I don't do what I do for the thanks, I do it so that one day someone will walk down the street and say, hey there goes David Brent, what a guy, I must remember to thank him'It always makes me laugh. | ![]() festario
02/4/2014 12:24 | Boggle Has the cake fog just cleared, We've already had a whip round to donate to the cause. Just joking. Thanks. Road network, power and other infrastructure issues will determine if it disrupts the flow of products out of Chile 'Major damage was reported to Highway A16 north of Iquique, a major port city of about 182,000 people at the edge of Chile's copper mining Atacama desert region.' That's exactly the sort of thing that affects the miners. As the news develops it will become apparent if mountain roads etc have been affected, but it is in an iodine area. I'm curious re seawater supply too, and whether pipelines have been compromised. | ![]() superg1

02/4/2014 12:20 | Yes - The area close to the epicentre is mineral rich, but none of the major copper companies reported any break in production (BBC). That could be for a variety of reasons, of course. | ![]() joestalin

02/4/2014 12:07 | roundup Good point, but explained that way back Madchick will recall I suspect. So it's explained, As I have said many times, on these BB's you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't. Happy to disappear completely this ADVFN posting site drives me nuts, but then my phone goes mad, so it's the lesser of the two evils. I have my posts and various comms at around 100,000 plus and growing. It takes a lot of patience, hence in recent times, I feel a little less guilty about the ban button. Still hurts to ban worrops and co though, but they can have their own thread. I saw a header before filtering, something about 'honest thread' thus we are all dishonest it would seem. But then that would start a debate on the very thing I wish to avoid on this thread. April 1st yesterday so a bit of fun. So that's it on the fighting the emotions to re-instate others. They can read I believe just can't post, but can create their own threads. They can post if they subscribe, up to them if it's that important. No need to work on my weaknesses of feeling bad about it. EDIT It's a PBB set up for the ban facility to reduce the amount of rubbish that others can create On FBB's. Most shares have abandoned FBBs for that reason and PBBs set up by subscribers for decent debate. It's no secret some went even further to escape these websites, some good folk don't read ADVFN anymore because of the playground name calling. | ![]() superg1
02/4/2014 12:07 | Knackers, there are some in far worst positions than me and we've had a few false dawns here since the end of January - and before. Ennismore not yet closed and they still have the potential impact of poor results, poor production figures - if any - and the drawn out saga of the water permit. I'm not counting any chickens yet. | alphacharlie |
