If it is his best investment that is really saying quite a lot regarding IOF... more anyone? :-)

FE Alpha Manager Giles Hargreave (pictured) is one of the most successful small cap investors in UK history.

Hargreave has more than doubled the returns of his peer group composite over five and 10 years, and outperformed over one and three.

Over 10 years, Hargreave has made 384.2 per cent across his four unit trusts and two VCTs, while his peers have picked up 174.99 per cent, according to FE Analytics.

mine has just arrived. It's great that he highlights IOF as his best investment. However he has as stated been in the investment industry for 4 decades so for his best investment to have occured in the last 18 months doesnt say much for his investment skill for the previous 30 years plus. yes a virtual 10 bagger for him i'm surprised that he has not owned other succesful investments.

superg - from memory he did a video last month....with a mention of IOF then, the niche market etc etc Think you put the video in the header of last thread...be interesting to see if he expands on the video comment

patents are not granted lightly, and probably more so in the US...so when patents are eventually granted, they can help underpin the model (ie no one can copy our extraction process) - from my experience, companies usually like to let their shareholders/potential investors know via RNS..so would expect to see that here...and telling the competitors, another nail in their coffin so to speak..

If it is for the Iosorb tech then they surely will rns it, as some funds add weight to the issue of the patent, or not, as the case may be.

I do recall Jeff saying they had paid a fee on one of their patents, implying as you say that it may have proceeded to grant (although there are lots of other points at which fees are paid as well).
I am doubtful whether they will RNS it though, its not usual in my experience for companies to RNS such things and why alert your competitors to your technology?

With so many at the presentation I forget who was, and wasn't there.

On the patent front, the inference was that one is due to be granted shortly. One fund may very soon wish they had done a little more research.

As you probably know there is an 18 month confidentiality rule on patents applied for so some may not be showing.

I'd taken the Iosorb patent as a given and still believe it to be that way. For that reason I had not really considered how newsworthy that may be. It's apparent some funds add a lot of weight to the grant of the patent. So an rns should appear and that could be anytime soon.

I understand the general grant time for the current believed circs is 1 to 4 months and we are 1 month into that.

Normally if I wish to obtain information on the US patent activity of a company, I would carry out a search on the US patent office site using the 'assignee name' field in their 'Quick Search' or 'Advanced Search' facilities for patent applications or granted patents. However, a search using Iofina as assignee returns no hits for either patent applications or granted patents. Even if I search for Iofina using the 'all fields' option I still get no hits!
However, if I search using a slightly different strategy, I can identify six patent applications (one of which proceeded to grant last year) that I believe refer to Iofina inventions. Five of these applications refer to iodine extraction methods and one to the synthesis of an iodine derivative. None of these applications give the name of the assignee or make any mention of Iofina at all! If my search is correct then clearly it seems Iofina are keeping a low profile on the patent front in order to avoid alerting competitors to their technology.
I have no way of knowing if my search is complete or not, due to the limitations of the search terms I have used.

Lib pretty much said what I wanted to say - if they are underplaying it, I hope the employee realises before they start or they could be a bit startled as to what is expected of them! On the other hand, as someone else noted, maybe one person can't do it all, so we just have more folk on board to make sure we do run to time and fully ramp up. Time will tell.

PS. In the email I got from IOF, the AGM was said to start at 10am.

Who was it who said iodine supplements could be the biggest growth area? From what I've read, the best way to overcome iodine deficiency is simply a change in diet to include iodine rich foods. In fact the use of supplements carries a risk of problematic side-effects, if too much is taken.
