See? Without volume even a bullish pattern gets walked-down. You must be a bit careful now, this can turn bearish very quickly.

Alphacharlie: they've cut out volatility all right, but sinking like a stone is even worse ;-)

Looks like any news on water is going to drag on, maybe even into January.

However in the first week of January we are due for an iodine production update which imo IOF can't avoid :-)

Black rock and others hit some trouble so threw various AIM shares out of the window without a 2nd thought.

There is far more to worry about for those big funds that what is going on in the AIM. The amount they are able to put into AIMs multi bagging or not is of little use to any bail out they need when times are tough.

Such funds won't be interested in promise currently just delivery, at which point they may buy.

So AIM shares with nowt and just promise, they will a be in trouble when they run out of funds, especially any small companies in iron.

I track nano as an interesting share but in this type of market I can't see that there will be big spending on enhanced mobile and TV screens. An unnecessary luxury with big spending needed on a switch. In a bull market yes, bear market no. So I'll be interested to see how it pans out for them over the coming year.

The market is rarely right on where future prices will be. Going on stories a year or so ago, it seemed the whole world had gold going through $3000 oz. Hence they are a load of small gold mines that chased low yield sites that will go bust if the price sites where it is now.

I see our erstwhile Boards attempts to stabilise the share price and cut out volatility by holding back on production updates* (and anything else of interest, come to that) seems to be bearing fruit in spades. The general malaise and recent slow fall is now rapidly approaching a year’s low just in time for Christmas. If they can just get it to close below 30p today, I am confident they can do it in time.

No doubt someone will tell me that this should be seen as a long term investment and I look forward to being assured, but please keep it simple and leave out the whistles and bells - I couldn't cope with anything too positive - disappointment always follows.

*A good call that one.

Selling based on the following IMO

Weak iodine prices this yr.

Poor September output figures. Well short of what they predicted they could achieve with 6 units (see half yr report Sept 2013).

Water objection and a generally weak market with little appetite for high risk growth companies.

I do not see much changing until the company proves it can monitise the technology and produce free cash flow.

I agree with that and there are going to be a lot of money made by buying oil companies after this rout is about to finish. Everyone seems to be shorting oil shares and as usual the baby is being thrown out with the bathwater.
As some stage the oils price will recover, well financed companies will thrive and there will be M&A activity.
Buy on a two year view and there should be money to be made. The question is when and what to buy, but we are not quite there yet.

There was a margin call seller that had been around since about the 3rd week of November, they were still in play last week, but I've not heard about this week.

I thought the very early sells were probably a headless chicken or two seeing the apparent spread mentioned last night and not understanding the extension rns.

In general the market is pretty grim all round if you look at all the various data. China, Greece, Russia, Oil, commodities the list is long.

Most oil companies have much of their production next year hedged at the higher prices, so it will take a sustained low price to affect US production heavily.

There are a few countries ahead in the queue that were in trouble on higher prices including some opec countries.

Just like the clamour for gold there will be a load of small companies that can't compete and the balance of supply/demand will be restored.

Thinking of good old RB energy and the market situation, they haven't a hope in hell of being rescued, tick tock.

It turns out SQM are not interested in their mine, they will just watch them expire.

I know that the US tax year ends (far more logically than the UK's!) on 31st Dec. I have often observed US stocks facing selling pressure in Dec as investors take profits or book losses. Given that we are actually a US company albeit with a UK listing, I wonder if this explains the selling?

SG thanks for your updates on the water situation, I think it will take either the water go ahead or strategic review and results for the share price to move to some reasonable level.

An example of what can happen and why those monitoring extensions exist so that trades can be checked due to mistakes
In Japan, there have been a series of "fat finger" blunders. At the start of the year, an employee of Nikko Citigroup, the investment bank, was hoping to buy two shares of Nippon Paper for his private portfolio.

But when he sent the order through to the company's trading department, he accidentally sent an order for 2,000 shares - giving him a control of 0.2pc of Nippon Paper. When he tried to sell the unwanted 1,998, he was unable to do so immediately.

A month earlier, in December 2005, a trader at Mizuho Securities cost the firm more than £200m rectifying a similar botched trade.

I nearly bought a load I didn't want one day on one share I was just lucky the price was refused.

Well we see what happens in the morning. There is not much volume particularly in the small caps.
Pretty boring really at the moment, but quite happy to wait.
You either believe in IOF or not.

Re those extensions they often appear on various shares on my watch list. Including double hits, I'm guessing some of you guys haven't really seen them much before. For one it seemed like a daily event.

I understand they are finger correction opportunities.

There is a bullish formation here, needs more volume though. 150k and 160k last 2 days are woeful.

Woukd you believe a guy who doesn't know the day of the week?

Anyway, his track record here is bad, nevertheless:

I reckon 45p would be the uppers Bollinger band here, also the 4 week high.
