if you have twice as many shares after the rights issue the value of the share is bound to fall.
how much it fall depends upon the cash raised.

although i feel sorry for the employees of IAG,i do not feel sorry for the BOD.these fat cats were printing money.for the last ten tears they have fleeced consumers in every way they could.charge travellers £100 just to change the date of travel which can be done by the traveller online obviously depending on availability. then if you would like to choose your seat online e again another £20 .they have had it too good.payback time.

Always been a fan of Mixed Fleet and Single Fleet Gatwick - liked Eurofleet but *hated* the 'I'm better than you" attitude of Worldwide crew towards MF and their ridiculous pay packets and perks compared to MF who are underpaid and overworked. News that was expected quite frankly.

careful - it does matter what the rights issue option price is though if all shares are mixed in to the same share pool. It can have a diluting effect if the discount is too big.

careful, if you think that good luck to you. more shares means existing shareholders get diluted. how many co's go up accordingly in line with the amount raised?

rights issues do not mean dilution.
take up your rights or sell them, makes no difference.
Even in the rights price was 10p.

work it out, why do people misunderstand rights issues.

The companies value will be increased by the amount raised by the rights issue.

Divide new value by total number of shares.

jailbird, yes you're right. but at a Mcap of £3Bn, rights issue would mean severe dilution

First time in their 48 year history a net loss for singapore airlines but still looking after their staff as much as possible He said retail shareholders can participate in the rights shares and right MCBs on the same terms as institutional shareholders. The capital raised from both measures will be classified as equity, which means that it is shareholder funds."These will strengthen our balance sheet for the future, rather than burden it with a high level of debt. If we have high level of debt, it will restrict our ability to raise further financing in the future," Mr Goh said. The rights issue, comprising new ordinary shares and MCBs, aims to raise $8.8 billion.Up to $6.2 billion of additional MCBs may also be issued within the 15-month period after the extraordinary general meeting to provide additional liquidity if the crisis is prolonged.Mr Goh said: "It will allow us to be in a position of strength and be able to capture growth as soon as the situation improves. In terms of beefing up our finances, we have been working with banks for additional facilities.Related StoryCoronavirus: SIA expects full-year net loss for first time in its historyRelated StoryOnly 10 out of 200 SIA planes still fly passengers; most parked at Changi, with 17 in Alice Springs"We will also continue to explore other sources of funding, including secured financing, and sales and leaseback of aircraft. "Bought 4 total punts yesterday, AA, Aston Martin, Eddie Stobard and Lamprell. My riskiest yet, but only a smallish wack on each."

Well done on only putting a tiny amount on Lamprell: they are serially incompetent. Look back over ten years' history and see the number of times they have messed up massively on contracts.

You may make money on a short-term bounce back. And if you do, very good luck to you.

But be under no illusion, they are in serious financial difficulty. There's a significant chance they go under.

furlough cant last forever, and if BA need to be leaner in the medium term, they need to be thinking about redundancies now. Delta or AAL CEO? said they would be smaller operatons, less flights, less routes etc.
