Why do you think BA and VS want bailouts?

The Guardian

"Staff from BA, easyJet and Norwegian served breakfast for NHS employees at Whittington hospital in north London on Wednesday. A paediatric registrar, Priyen Shah, tweeted:"

Indeed, as will any pension contributions, that are diverted to subsidise salary above 2500.

Any money received from the gov, ie up to the 2500 will be taxable, so 2500 is not what the take home pay will be.

There are two statements in the Bloomberg article that appear to contradict each other ?

"That will be funded by the U.K. government up to a value of 2,500 pounds ($3,095) a month under a national plan, with the airline picking up the tab for wages beyond that level."

"Employees will also be able to divert pension contributions into their pay for a short period of time to top up salaries"

Have to say I don't like the suggestion of having to use non taxable pension contributions to subsidise taxable pay ?

I can see how BA and the Chancellor would find it attractive though .

Monty,

36k suspended for now..but after June there will be jobs cuts

There is no guarantee that your employer will keep you on after the scheme ends. And if you are furloughed, you will not qualify for 80 per cent of your salary if you earn more than £2,500 per month. In that case, an employer could choose to “top up” your salary, or you could be eligible for support through the welfare system, including Universal Credit.

If you receive a regular salary, the 80 per cent should be calculated based on an employee’s actual salary before tax (their gross salary), as of February 28

A 100% increase from 100p would bring us to here that seems possible.

ccr.....I think it is indicative that Walsh has delayed the Annual Shareholders' Meeting 2020, originally scheduled for June, until the end of September 2020.

By then, we would all hope to see some resumption of normality.

It will be helpful to hear thatan agreement regarding furlough has been reached .
I think that countries will be wanting to re-open the lockdowns asap.
Spain is already indicating that it may phase a release of the lockdown starting with younger citizens first. Nothing confirmed though.

I also think that IAG will be well placed to recover once this is resolved ,
As always though DYOR.
