Inmarsat reports non-payment by LightSquared under Cooperation Agreement

1 October 2014 - Inmarsat today announces that a payment due from LightSquared under the terms of the Cooperation Agreement between the two companies has not been received. As a result Inmarsat has issued a notice of default to LightSquared in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

On 30 September 2014, a quarterly Phase 2 payment of US$12.5 million and a related payment of US$5.0 million became due, resulting in an aggregate amount due from LightSquared of US$17.5 million. This payment has not been received.

On 1 October 2014 Inmarsat issued a notice of default to LightSquared under the Cooperation Agreement. This notice triggers a period of 60 calendar days during which LightSquared can remedy the payment before Inmarsat is entitled to enforce its rights and remedies under the agreement for payment default, including pre-agreed spectrum arrangements and termination of certain LightSquared rights under the Cooperation Agreement.

The revenue generation of Inmarsat's group business remains unaffected by today's announcement.

Well no surprises there then..

Wad - "Investors are cautioned that this announcement provides no guarantee that any further payments will be received from LightSquared."

That's it, finished, gone, end of story. Thankfully not the end of the world for ISAT. Waiting now for some announcement on new timetable for the remaining two satellite launches, then we can all sit back and enjoy the ride ha ha.

Presume today's drop is related to the lightsquared announcement , that they have stumped up today but....
"Further payments from LightSquared are subject to significant uncertainty. In May 2012, LightSquared filed for a reorganisation under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code and is yet to complete a reorganisation process that would allow LightSquared, among other things, to fund its further operations including payments to Inmarsat. Investors are cautioned that this announcement provides no guarantee that any further payments will be received from LightSquared."

Wad, thanks, so it's actually two satelites which are waiting to be launched, let's hope the launch people can sort out the problem and get ISAT fully operational. Can ISAT insure against this sort of delay I wonder ?

Inmarsat comments on Inmarsat-5 launch schedule

Inmarsat has a contract with International Launch Services ("ILS") for the launch of two Inmarsat-5 satellites ("F2" and "F3") using the Proton launch vehicle. These two satellites will complete our Global Xpress ("GX") network of three satellites and allow for the start of GX services on a global basis. The first Inmarsat-5 satellite ("F1") was successfully launched using Proton in December 2013 and remains on track to begin commercial operations in July 2014.

On 15 May 2014, a Proton launch vehicle failed shortly after lift-off, resulting in the loss of its satellite payload. The cause of the failure will be assessed by a process known as the Failure Review Oversight Board ("FROB") and a report of its findings is expected to be completed in the next two months. While the conclusions of the FROB will be important in determining the impact on our launch schedule, we believe a delay in the planned launch of both the Inmarsat-5 F2 and F3 is now likely, which would delay the launch of GX services on a global basis. However, the start of commercial GX services on a regional basis using F1 (and F2 in due course), as well as existing customer commitments to purchase GX services, will not be impacted by any delay in global service availability.

Inmarsat's existing L-band business is entirely unaffected by any GX launch delay and continues to trade in line with management expectations.

wad collector - Well done to add at 694

Did I read somewhere that ISAT's 3rd. satellite launch has been delayed due to the failure of a recent rocket launch. Shame because they need that 3rd. satellite to complete the 'round the world' coverage for their Global Express service. But, it will come on stream at some point and then the share price should motor.

Added at 694. These seem to have become a bit volatile , on the basis of little news and less logic in my view.( Well, not strictly true , they did produce interims 2 days ago , which are a bit skewed by lightsquared , but within the predicted range)

728 and I will have those back again , plus 5%. I like a bit of illogical volatility .

Triggered later. I do like my holdings to work for me ,not just meander ,at the risk of missing a bigger rise.
Set another buy limit for 698 ; I will have some more at that price.

Ah , finally triggered the sell limit. One of these days the share price will break out again.

Sadly no need to use ISAT to find today's Malaysian airline.

The illogical volatility of the Market ; 3 days later I am buying back on a 5% profit , at 728 and yet , what really has changed about ISAT in the last 3 days? The interest rate possibilities explain todays small fall , but the share price fluctuations seem often random , or manipulations.
Still , happy to profit from them.

Thanks , I had forgotten about Light Squared , but classic over-reaction of share price to news.

wad collector - IIRC the capitalisation issue was tied up with the Light Squared fiasco, ISAT were clever in that they were not involved directly but had rented out some of their spectrum and were faced with the prospect of loosing that (considerable) revenue, bit like a landlord who finds one of his tennents doing a moonlight flit, but as with the landlord ISAT found other revenues and now look to be on a winner with the 'on board' broadband for airline passengers.

When I think back to all the muppets I've been forced to sit next to and listen to when flying I wish I could reset my life back about 20 years !!

That graph is a reminder of where this company once was. I never really understood why its capitalisation halved , but glad it did.
I have put another sell limit for 774 ; still think there will be weakness ahead sometime.
