29/1/2018 17:32 | You left out the logical extension of your argument of the third paragraph, which is: "Alternatively, if in the medium term the company demonstrates that the dividend is capable of being more than covered by earnings/capital, with the additional prospect of future increases, then the shares will become more attractive to buyers". A judgement call, the actual outcome remaining to be seen. And if you were truly "following on the coat tails of the shorters", you would presumably have noted the approximate halving of the aggregate short position in just the last few weeks, with only very few of those left increasing rather than actively winding down their positions. PS - don't assume you're the only one to do any research! It is possible to research and come to an alternative conclusion. | bluemango
29/1/2018 17:32 | Good luck with that, reverse of the greater fool theory... I assume your other investments are cryto-currencies? | zcaprd7
29/1/2018 16:07 | chancer, I don't really see the link between share price and dividend that you're making - either the divi is sustained and the lower share price just increases the yield or the divi is cut in which case the yield remains roughly the same in line with the lower share price. Since the divi is a conscious company policy based on earnings and profitability, the share price is unconnected. ISTR that the divi exceeds free cash flow, but that ISAT has defended this policy given expected future earnings. | stun12
29/1/2018 16:04 | "8% dividend surely is not sustainable at these prices. 50% in share price drop must mean 50% drop in dividend." That doesn't sound quite right to me, but wtfdik? | penycae
29/1/2018 15:13 | This look s good value now. Bought in today | 1fox1
29/1/2018 15:05 | Good points there, steeplejack. Is the market assuming the level of dividends is not sustainable? I'm happy enough to sit here and take the yield, but if a drastic reduction is on the cards I might be inclined to lighten up a bit. (PS Long just north of £5). | stun12
29/1/2018 13:49 | With all this natter about Carillion having overpaid on the dividend front,Inmarsat doesn't look overly clever. Moreover, some are suggesting that GKN might escape a Melrose takeover because of sensitive government contracts.I presume the same factor would apply to ISAT in the event of an approach. Thus, topica | steeplejack
29/1/2018 12:30 | At this stage, its going to be numbers and results that turn this around, not PR fluff... Expect an 18 month wait! | zcaprd7
26/1/2018 15:53 | Dividend = 9% (rounded to nearest whole number), p/e = 10 (rounded to nearest whole number) Says it all, really Compare to Intelsat; div = 0 as there is none, p/e = negative as makes a loss... | lurker
26/1/2018 15:45 | Interesting. They usually arrange to have some large trade deals to sign when PMs and presidents do foreign trips. It's good PR to get export contract signings into the papers and TV. They are usually negotiated beforehand for signing on the visit. I wonder if there is anything for ISAT. China's a big market! Yes, it reads promisingly. The publication of the visit entourage might account for the price rise around lunchtime. Fingers crossed. | aleman
26/1/2018 15:04 | I see ISAT are part of the PMs trade delegation to China | davemac3
26/1/2018 09:13 | Blue Mountain now dropped below disclosable short, less then 0.53%. Aggregate short down to 4.22%. AQR seem to be the only institution actively shorting, the others have been busy unwinding theirs. | bluemango
