I have heard that long-term development programs and capex are temporarily on hold in case of a takeover bid.

You've identified the main issue with the brokers, they think of satellites as bandwidth floating around in the sky, and all identical.Once signed up, it's a right pain the move providers, and they're all slightly different e.g fixed array, mobile, vsats

Unless there is a takeover, it will be a slow recovery, and will take a few sets of results to sink in and prove the naysayers wrong I suspect. I always thought the market looked ahead, but apparently not that far ahead in satellite stocks...

collecting the dividend.........

PS: You are showing yourself up over at IMM with your zero approach to research.

yes looks like Deutsche Bank have managed to get their average down again.
they have been working this stock for some time now, but at least they are
still interested in the company.

i have been working on my average as well only 1.5% down now.

Looks like Numis have overcooked it with a £4 price target.Something would have to be seriously amiss to get to that level, especially in view of management buying.Shorts,at slightly over 6% last reported,is now at a level last seen in the Summer. We'll see in March whether the company decides to cut the dividend. If the company decides that it doesn't need to cut and that cash flows are ample to meet cash flow requirements, the shares could recover sharply.Yet even if the company was to trim payments,a reduced dividend would still afford a well above average yield. The shares are probably worth £6 despite all the Numis inspired uncertainty.I have implicit faith that Goldmans have turned lukewarm at near the bottom and in all probability will have soaked up some of the recommendation induced selling. That's just the way these investment banks behave!

I don't understand how he gets the numbers (taken from consensus forecasts) but I like the jump from 2020. It suggests they need to borrow about $230m over 2018 and 2019 to fund the uncovered part of the dividend and then it is covered. That does not seem like a big deal to me.

What a shame that the institutional investors are mostly focused on the next quarter and not on what the company will be like 12 months ahead .

First ever inflight mobile call reaches 10th anniversary milestone
18 December 2017: On 17 December 2007, working in partnership with Inmarsat, SITAONAIR’s first Mobile ONAIR inflight call was made onboard an Airbus A318, delivered over Inmarsat’s global voice and data service SwiftBroadband.

Over the past decade, more than 550 aircraft have been equipped with the popular service, serving the needs of commercial, VIP and governmental flights alike. In addition, it is now available across all aircraft types, from single-aisle to long-range – resulting in more than 20 million passengers connecting for voice, SMS and data transmission in 2017.

Looking back to the first flight, Veronique Blanc, Head of Engineering at SITAONAIR (then OnAir) in 2007, said: “The launch of Mobile ONAIR and the first inflight phone call was very exciting for everyone involved. Back then, even before the widespread use of smartphones, we knew what we were doing was hugely innovative, and paving the way for the future of inflight connectivity.”

Industry first
Today, Inmarsat’s partnership with SITAONAIR continues to evolve with developments such as the recent deployment of cutting-edge inflight mobile network services over Inmarsat’s high-speed broadband GX Aviation service. In this aviation industry first, passengers and crew benefit from high-speed and seamless connectivity, comparable to the home experience.

Frederik van Essen, Inmarsat Aviation Senior Vice President said: “Passenger expectations around inflight connectivity have dramatically evolved over the past decade. Inmarsat worked shoulder to shoulder with SITAONAIR ten years ago to pioneer the first ever inflight mobile phone call and data connectivity on an international flight.

“Today, we are together introducing unprecedented new capacities with GX Aviation, ensuring that airline passengers can browse the internet, stream videos, check social media and more during flights, with an onboard connectivity experience comparable to the mobile broadband services they may receive on the ground.”

Essential component
Gregory Ouillon, Chief Technology Officer at SITAONAIR, said: “It’s remarkable to think that it was just ten years ago that SITAONAIR launched the world’s first inflight mobile service onboard an international flight.

“Ten years is a long time in aviation, however, and during this period the solution has evolved to become an essential component of the full cabin connectivity experience, allowing passengers to use their mobile phones as they would on the ground

Many of the so called big boys are also long.

The risk reward return over the medium to long term is beginning to shift in favour of the bulls.

The emergence of know it alls like Badger are a reassuring contrary indicator.

AQR are a black box algo outfit who would have initiated their position based on liquidity, momentum, RSI and a host of other technical indicators. They would not for a moment have considered the vagaries of the balance sheet and the actual business of satellite technology and the market opportunity.
