That's a pretty explosive piece. Apple is stating that IMG had clear knowledge that Apple was pulling away. No new IP since 2015, means that any improvements in performance in the A10 (2016 iphone) and A10x (ipad) are entirely Apple's doing (excluding process reduction).

The bloomberg article is believable, however I don't think it invalidates IMG's CEO's claim that they do not believe Apple have developed a GPU that doesn't infringe their IP or confidential information. We may never see the truth on that claim.

That said, I don't think it makes much difference regarding any sale. The markets response to the Feb announcement built in the assumption Apple revenues would tank in 15-18 months. The current price includes a takeover premium, there may be more upside on an actual take over taking place, there may not be... ;-)

Yep impossible to say who is or isn't telling the whole truth, but both have "history" in this regard. Three 8.3's from Herald have popped up but sadly my phone won't show them correctly to see what they show.

Apple's comments in the Bloomberg article ring true, and fit in with the known facts.

I'm afraid that after following IMG for many years, I've reluctantly come to the conclusion that they often say things that are very misleading.

Of some interest is the timeline here - Apple say they informed IMG that they were not taking any new IP from them in late 2015 when SHY was CEO. He left soon afterwards in Feb 2016.

Honestly, it's worth employig the filter here.

I'm sternly against using it in 99% of cases as even those with contary opinions have some meat behind their arguments and are civil about their postings.

Mallorca just winds up for the sake of it, says nothing of value and is constantly wrong.

Apple not bidding for IMG (if it was true which it may not be as it is unsubstantiated) could be a benefit for the sale. Who would want to bid for IMG if they thought that Apple really wanted it given Apples finances? If Apple was out the picture then potential bidders might think that they had a chance and that it was therefore worth bidding. So ironically the price could be higher if Apple was definitely not involved than if it probably was involved! :-)
