12/9/2017 19:17 | Don't be so pessimistic Apple speak is Apple speak This stuff is still using IMG IP , ok designed by Apple. | sweenoid
12/9/2017 19:08 | Camera splits every screen into 2 million tiles. Now, where did they get that idea from ? | hammerd2
12/9/2017 19:03 | Even though we were already out, that's gonna absolutely kill the share price tomorrow am. Balls. Man + dog were expecting another full year of Apple revenues, if only a bid had already come in.... Even if they only mean there's been no IMG help in the design they have said it's only them so it's not going to take much to see the share price absoutely obliterated. | hammerd2
12/9/2017 19:01 | Apple designed GPU in the iPhone 8. Apparently. | hammerd2
12/9/2017 18:49 | A10x in the new Apple TV. | merkage
12/9/2017 16:42 | Invesco also piling in JR. Added a couple of 100k in the past week. | hammerd2
12/9/2017 15:19 | "All Apple GPUs since then (A7 onwards) have been listed as "Apple Ax GPU" ! Cheeky sods." Isn't that when they stopped using 100% IMG GPU's and started the hybrid part Apple design in the GPU. | pottsey
12/9/2017 14:15 | I think I remember a recent purchase of 100K by Gifford so there are clearly different views out there! | jamesrowe
12/9/2017 13:59 | Marshall Wace gradually increasing their shorts here and on IQE. I have a feeling (and hope) they will get their fingers burned badly by both (well, by even more in IQE's case) in the near future. | hammerd2
12/9/2017 13:43 | Actually I just had a look and they haven't called an Apple GPU "PowerVR" since 2014 ! iPad 4 and iPhones 5 and 5C. All Apple GPUs since then (A7 onwards) have been listed as "Apple Ax GPU" ! Cheeky sods. | hammerd2
12/9/2017 12:46 | Meizu Pro 7/7 Plus using MediaTek Helio X30 including PowerVR 7XT Plus MT4 4 cluster GPU appeared today for the first time on the futuremark GPU benchmark listings. Overall the Meizu Pro 7/7 Plus GPU outperforms the iPhone 7/7 Plus using the Apple A10 GPU based on a PowerVR 7XT 6 cluster GPU. | borromini1
12/9/2017 12:02 | Odd.... I can't get a price for IMG shares on TD at the moment..... Perhaps they are down for 'routine maintenance' again.... :-( Edit: Looks like they are back up again. | jamesrowe
12/9/2017 08:58 | Looks like someone has a BUY limit order set at 139.5. :-) Could be one of the big holders propping up the price?? | jamesrowe
12/9/2017 07:51 | borromini1 - if you go to the GFX benchmark site and search Apple products it is noticeable that around 6 or 6S (IIRC I haven't looked since I sold out my original holding ages ago so my memory is a little vague) they stopped listing the GPU as PowerVR and started listing it as Apple ! It may just be marketing or may have been an indicator that Apple were starting to claim the GPU designs as 'theirs'. Let's just hope that we finally get some takeover news. This is getting more tedious than a Radio 5 phone in. | hammerd2
12/9/2017 07:48 | “Akshay and yourself don't seem to understand that CPU's have a small number of cores whereas GPU's have groups of many cores, IMG call them clusters, ARM call them shader cores,” A cluster and a core are not the same thing. IMG are not just calling a core a cluster. It’s called a cluster for a reason. As for the deal with Nibiru for VR technology I do not see that as major or needing an RNS. VR is mostly hype, low volume, low profit and unlikely to change any time soon if ever. | pottsey
12/9/2017 07:25 | very interesting, pound weak and any international buyer would get a good deal under £2. POUND undervalued and companies looking into UK have this year to make any business buyouts reported. Hold and buy on any weakness. | blueteam
12/9/2017 06:36 | failed bid talks here? got worried and sold in case fall to sub 80 | middlesboroughfc
12/9/2017 01:24 | EDF - As for your screaming red text in 28394 Akshay and yourself don't seem to understand that CPU's have a small number of cores whereas GPU's have groups of many cores, IMG call them (edit: these groups) clusters, ARM call them shader cores, Qualcomm don't give the game away. We all expected the next iPhone 7s, 8, x or what ever would follow the iPad Pro pattern and contain the same previous iPhone GPU arrangement on a smaller 10nm process node to provide the performance boost. The surprise would be if it was not a 6 cluster Rogue 7XT arrangement as Apple claim they stopped licencing new IMG designs a couple of years ago. The aspect that will not be clear is where the devide between Apple's GPU customisation design work and IMG's GPU IP sits and the relative contribution they each make to various aspects of the resultant GPU performance. | borromini1
12/9/2017 00:46 | H2 - the recent iPad Pro 12 cluster Rogue 7XT GPU on 10nm process node was cranked up by Apple to give an unprecedented futuremark ice storm unlimited graphics test score of 109k. One standout iPad Pro spec item is the super smooth display refresh rate of up to 120hz, this maybe a test run for the kind of refresh rate that benefits AR/VR. | borromini1
11/9/2017 23:53 | EDF - keep up, try searching this thread for Nibiru, it gives 7 results including your post which is a repeat of post 28379 from yesterday, except Taffy100's post includes a helpful reference link to the IMG press release, not everything is an RNS. One characteristic of a system such as deployed by ADVFN is the difficulty with finding out about previous posted content, it demands a bit of effort to avoid replica posts. tombelfast - sometimes the process of posting can cause duplicated posts to be generated, when this happens post edit one version down to a dot, ref 28380 + 28381 and 28383 + 28384. It all makes for clarity and a concise read :-) | borromini1
11/9/2017 20:09 | Imagination Tech have signed a co-op deal with Nibiru for VR technology... The deal puts IMG as a important bed fellow with Nibiru and VR content/ and platforms. V.P James Liu signed a co-op agreements with Nibitu in China. Would be nice if they actually RNS decent news !! | evil_doctor_facilier
11/9/2017 18:49 | The US market, breathing a sigh of relief that Florida has not in fact been devastated are performing very positively Lattice Semiconductor is a stand - out in being down today The US market is betting Trump is going to deny their takeover by Canyon, apparently their regulations suggest Trump gives his response within 14 days from the 1st - that makes Friday decision day S | sweenoid
11/9/2017 16:17 | Apple have released GPUs with core counts not officially released in the past. At the time didn't the chief CB said something along the lines that the announced one was for mid tier phones even with only those clusters ? I felt it was seen to be an inherently powerful architecture. Shame we never got to see really big Series 5 or 6 designs (the reason given was always that there wasn't the chip real estate to accommodate and no one needed the extra horsepower they would give) and probably now won't see many Furian ones under IMG branding. | hammerd2
11/9/2017 15:49 | The only Furian 8XT core announced so far is the two cluster GT8525 on 10 May, this design will not have the capabilities to power any future top end flagship smartphone. The next announced release for Furian Series8XT can only involve more clusters. Given the maximum possible is 32 the number of clusters will give an indication of the level of device IMG are aiming at or more likely have a target customer for. If it is 4 or 6 that doesn't look so promising, if it's 8 or 12 that is interesting, if it's 16 or 24 that gets very interesting. Especially as Furian is designed for 10nm and 7nm process nodes. | borromini1 |
