04/1/2007 15:00 | Making a nice breakout. Spoke to the FD today: Regarding the PPL rates. Rates were raised heavily by the industry last year and back-dated to Jan 06. It's the retailer that pays the fee, not ISD. So basically the business is meeting expectations in spite of these higher rates, it isn't something that will hit them as an extra cost going forward. The govenment has been petitioned by the industry that these rates were too high and too fast. The Govenment hasn't done anything yet (Tone and John partying and humping secretaries, so too busy) but any decission would only mean the status quo is maintained or the gov putting a freeze on further rises I guess, or lowering them. So basically any decission would be neutral or positive from where ISD currently stand. It wouldn't affect margins either way, it just affect how readily they might acquire or increase customers as their costs would be higher/lower andf may affect their decission to use piped music etc. As far as barriers to entry go - do many businesses have that many barriers to entry these days? I dare say HMV and Woolworth thought they had good barriers to entry until the internet arrived. I can't think of many businesses that do have good barriers to entry and those that do don't seem to make great money quite often, like Sky. And a fwd PE of 7.7 - is there that much being factored into the price when they will grow earnings at 120% this year anyway? CR | cockneyrebel
03/1/2007 17:59 | Expect to speak to Ken Pratt FD soon so I'll ask about the messaging and what that means. Now we're back through 18p watch the strength of these up to the results imo. CR | cockneyrebel
03/1/2007 16:48 | Good thing, cos the main company website is not investor friendly, is it? | spangle93
03/1/2007 16:45 | As well as the main company webiste there are a couple of others where you can hear what they do : spa.musicstyling.com www.musicstyling.com | ptolemy
03/1/2007 13:20 | Is messaging specifically advertising in this case though? BTW: We have in Bluewater trialled a system that will send location based text messages saying "go into [e.g.]coffee Republic and get 10% discount when you show this text message" as you walk near CFE | mikey_b
03/1/2007 13:10 | Messaging refers to the delivery of site-specific advertising, either by scheduled delivery off a hard disk on site or via their addressable satellite delivery service. | odomok
03/1/2007 12:43 | It could just mean getting an advertising/info "message" across to shoppers in-store couldn't it? Not necessarily a separate messaging venture. BM | beer monster
03/1/2007 12:40 | I think its a direct messaging service where they might send messages or adverts to customers by text etc. | matt9991
03/1/2007 12:35 | Interesting that when I have called the company recently they auto-answer now says they are the 'home of retail music and messaging'. Not sure what messaging they do but it sonds an interesting add on. CR | cockneyrebel
