IMAGESOUND - ISD - BREAKOUT

A lot of volume the past few weeks..

19 June 2006
AGM Trading Statement

"Following the completion of the restructuring actions last year, I am pleased
to report that the company has started the current financial year in much better shape and trading is currently ahead of expectations.

Results Sept 6th 2006.

Collins Stewart predicts...

2.4p eps forecast for next year which means at current share price we have a forward PE of 6.

On May 19 forecasts were upgraded from 1.0p to 1.1p this year. (this was before the AGM)

Also..

"The new FD buying 500K since his appointment in March says things are going well too imo."

Also the chairman has a very large stake he increased over the last few months...

"Mr. Mapp has a beneficial interest in the Company of 8,005,114
shares, which represents 13.3% of the Company."

All i can say is a company growing over 110% is worth much more then a PE of 6...

Well even after last week's rise these still look screaming cheap imo. 2.4p eps forecast for next year means the forward PE is still below 6.

Two really interesting points. Sales in 2007 are set to rise from £7.1m to £8.4m while profits are set to rise from £0.7m to £1.8m so there's some major margin increase coming over the next 12 months according to Collins Stewart.

Secondly, their note was only published on May 4 quoting 1p eps this year, 2.1p 2007 but by May 19 they had upgraded to 1.1p eps this year, 2.4p eps 2007. That's a pretty swift upgrade but by the AGM on June 19th the company was saying they were ahead of expectations.

All that says to me the pace of performance here is a lot faster than the market expects. The new FD buying 500K since his appointment in March says things are going well too imo.

(my ten month old son just hit the send button!).

I will redress the balance over time by adding spare dosh to the non-ISA account, at least till they are 50/50.

P.S. Diog, a special thanks for your cheerful appraisal on the joys of getting older. I don't plan on getting older though. I plan on getting younger. I am a sad git at 41, who goes to the gym nearly every day, trying to beat previous personal running/rowing times! And so far, it's working!

CR, Diog. Thx. 75% of my non pension shares are in ISAs. I think I will redress the balance over time

Ian: you need to make 30% capital gain (taxed at 40%) to equal 18% tax free in an ISA. My Pep and Isa do much worse than my Sipps and personal portfolio, but they are also less volatile, and after tax there is not much difference in the return. Furthermore, when you are old and incontinent, and your eyes are too rheumy to see the screen (as mine will shortly be), you can leave the ISA safely invested in defensive stocks and draw an almost tax free income from it until you pop your clogs. Such a fund has a number of advantages over a pension fund, and the capital remains accessible. These seem to me to be good reasons to continue to contribute the maximum annual amounts to ISAs.

The chancellor has only guaranteed the existence of ISAs until 2010. ISAs - partly owing to the progressive worsening of the terms - have failed in their supposed purpose of encouraging saving by the poor, and now benefit only the capital gains tax paying classes. It is quite possible that no further contributions will be allowed after that date, but my guess is that existing ISAs (like existing PEPs) may be allowed to remain invested. That means that you might have only a limited time left to build up your fund.

Tough one. It's easy to think the benefits of the ISA tax relief are not worth having when AIM soars. I have felt the same but reckon a mediocre tax free investment beats an exciting taxed one if you're paying 40%. The taper relief on AIM does reduce that but if you are actively trading then you probably won't see the taper relief. I currently have my ISA's where they are and am not adding cash to them but wouldn't want to be without them if large caps have a big rally.

CR - thanks for your thoughts. One more thing (if I may be so bold!) - I have started moving funds from ISA to non-ISA (so I can invest more in AIM stocks). I used to use spare earnings to top up mine and the wife's self select ISAs, and anything left over went into AIM stock. However, I now believe that the tax free benefits of an ISA is a false economy for an active investor. The greater gains in general, I am sure, are to be had in AIM stocks, even if there is a tax burden (although I realise this diminishes by 75% if held for 2 years). Would that be a correct assumption?

P.S. That's my last question, honest!

Ian, if I go in big it's 10% to 15%, never more. Making money is important but not making a massive mistake is more important.

There's an old phrase - 'if something can go wrong, it will'. You can plan for everything but there's always that 5% chance that the unexpected happens. It definitely seems to pay to go in big when you are very confident and done your research fully. In fact I tend to build a position bit by bit over a few weeks or months as I increase my research and confidence. Often the first major dip after the first major rally is when I might buy lots more as with SOLA this week and others.

Always remember it's more important to be able to play another day than to a massive turn on one stock, you can always fight back from a moderate size loss but lose the lot nearly and there's no way back.

Congrats CR! Makes my £1000 profit look rather puny! When you go in boots 'n all, generally what percentage of your portfolio do you go up to? (SMC was recently 25% of mine, but I cut back to a safer 15%).

Feel free not to answer that, it's just that it's fair to say you have a bit more experience in investing than myself, and your opinion is much appreciated.

on candlestick charts there looked to be a bit of resistance around here and then a big gap up. i figured when it does break up itll fill at least half that gap and with the indicators already quite high (rsi, stochastics, williams, ect.) i thought it may pull back over the next couple of days before it makes its push on. got 13.35 this morning when the bid was 13.25 though so they do look keen for stock. good luck anyway guys, hopefully il be able to join you again
