30/6/2015 20:16 | 'Fracking will happen just as day follows night' Government can't afford not to. Look where the USA is today!! | au24

30/6/2015 10:06 | 12.48 Fracking industry calls for government to rewrite planning rules This'll go down well... Ken Cronin, chief executive of the UK Onshore Operators Group, the fracking trade body: An important plank of the Government’s energy policy and manifesto commitment has been reduced to a position that despite all the advice a rejection has been given. This after 15 months of a long drawn out process cannot be right and I urge the government to urgently review the process of decision making. There is a growing coalition in this country including manufacturing industries and trade unions that support the need for shale from an economic, environmental and energy security perspective. 80 per cent of our homes are supported by gas for heating and the chemical industry supports 500,000 jobs that use gas as the raw material to make products as diverse as toothpaste and computers. The Government needs to take a strategic review of how to ensure these planning decisions are made in the prescribed timescales – this one has taken 15 months as opposed to a guideline of 16 weeks. This lengthy delay is bad for the industry and the communities involved. This is just one adverse planning decision, where the professional judgement of planning officials, leading counsel and expert agencies was to approve based on the fact that all of the environmental, safety, health and local issues had been addressed. Other exploration companies have already stated they will be putting in their own applications very shortly. | haydock
30/6/2015 09:21 | Caught up on a CNBC section of squark box USA from last week. The correct figs given to the Lancs councillors might have put some other thought in their minds. Apparently at the moment 10% of the total spend in industry in the USA is on fracking. They don't invest 10% for nowt! Numbers employed were significant, about 6 additional for every oil worker. The discussion was about removing the cap on export, coming soon. Cameron & co will have to get their acts together now, after Preston. There was some debacle about legal opinions admitted yesterday from the no vote after the deadline & not allowed from the yes camp. That seemed to tip the vote. Will no doubt get noticed in the appeal. INEOS applications will carry much more weight & be more thoroughly pre -prepared on the ground. No history of earthquakes & PEEL land does not look as green & promised. The process has been accepted it's now about locations. That's the good news about Preston. | haydock
30/6/2015 08:14 | No one seems to have asked if any of the 'protesters' have gas central heating! Why not cut off gas supplies to all areas refusing fracking - might concentrate minds. 80% of UK is heated by gas there is no alternative. the PM should spell it out frack or freeze its up to you. | slogsweep
29/6/2015 21:16 | Peoples decision and the voters have taken the peoples voice ... NIMBY ... simple.Happy for this vote. Yes feel sorry for you if lost money but thats the risk we PI's take. I am not an investory in any Fraking company as I dont believe the technology needs to exist or that we need it. Would much rather they invested it in to solar/wind energy than pi$$ millions in to there 10 kegs a day wells like its US counterparts. | duxy786
29/6/2015 20:13 | No, I've invested all I'm willing to risk with this. It will be turned around on appeal, read the facts, The planning officer has said that the noise levels produced will be BELOW ambient levels! As for flaring they will only do it for a few hours during testing phases and can do it during the daytime. I'm not concerned, Caudrilla will win the appeal and once they do other councils will find it very hard to refuse with legal fees looming for unsubstantiated rejections. While I commend the councillors for supporting their constituents, they have got this decision tragically wrong and will pay the price. | wordog
29/6/2015 17:30 | ANYONE "TOPPING UP, FILLLA YA BOOTS" ETC ETC ETC LOL FOX YOU | fox you
29/6/2015 12:23 | Not a lot of value left being in here then? Guess we had all better bail out and invest in three bar electric fires and peat farms. Coal x Wind x Shale x Russian Gas Yep Qatar LPG Yep Usa LPG Yep At what cost. A missed opportunity to bring in vast finances to the UK and jobs. Oh well anyone know how do I invest in Putins Gas Prom? | hawkwind4
29/6/2015 12:11 | That's it. A step too far for a council that has been intimidated by media support [desperate for readership and viewing figures] of a vocal minority led by the nose by foreign despots and publicity seeking millionaire 'celebs'. Loudest doesn't mean 'right'. So, bring on the appeal then and sorry Lancashire, can you truly afford it [and this council]? ---------->> Council blocks fracking application 2 minutes ago, BBC Lancashire. Lancashire County Council has refused a planning application for fracking at a site in Little Plumpton. Energy firm Cuadrilla wanted to extract shale gas at the site between Preston and Blackpool. The Little Plumpton bid had been recommended for approval by planning officials, subject to working hours, noise control and highway matters. But councillors rejected the advice and have voted 10-4 to reject the application. It followed a refusal motion which rejected the bid on the grounds of "unacceptable noise impact" and the "adverse urbanising effect on the landscape". | 2baffled
29/6/2015 11:55 | Decision against at Preston new Rd. Only 3 in favour. Cuedrilla will have to go down to London? | haydock
26/6/2015 18:57 | have you seen tw's comments??? lol | fox you
26/6/2015 14:33 | Frack For Financial Freedom and Finances Buy British gas, not Russian gas nor LPG from Qatar and the USA. Who would lose out the most if we went all in for shale in the UK. Ans, Russia. Who supports the green party and activists. Rocket science it isn't. Who will Russia penalise the most for those sanctions imposed against them over their actions in Ukraine. And who in their right minds would want to vote to keep buying their gas and at what price and supply. They do not need to supply us, they have a new deal with China, so they can play us as they like. You anti's read the facts, and back Britain's future | hawkwind4
26/6/2015 12:12 | Results comment anyone? Oil price under control, but profits not as they used to be. Cost down & hedged. A Lot of work going forward in the shale gas areas. | haydock
26/6/2015 10:43 | There is a huge resource under the UK. It deserves the attention and action of central government, and not simply kind words. We need to drill some wells. If not, we need a debate over why not. If the government is scared of scared of redundancy dead tree media journalists, themselves often simply stenographers angling for a secure press officer gig at FoE or similar, then all the money aimed at the UK shale industry can - and will -and should - find other places to go. David Cameron can't get on a plane without a cohort of business people telling the world how Britain is open for business. Either it is - or it isn't. There is no yes but option for energy, and if there is, it makes the rest of the open for business meme look equally tenuous. Do we want to do this or not? That's the question. hxxp://www.nohotair. | haydock
25/6/2015 20:03 | Lcc voted down the second site at Plumpton, following the advise of the Officers. All very clear that the road access was no where near good enough. Tricky one though, the local farmers had better watch what they apply for now. As postulated a month ago the decision by the officers to accept all the basic application at the Preston N.R. site has opened the door for fracking nationally. The QC has advised they will loose any case with costs if they vote it down, dilemma, they are not happy, but Monday could see a fait a complis. | haydock |
