RNS today: further US$3.5 million interim payment on its way for Insurance claim. The Company is continuing to make good progress towards a final settlement of the claim with the insurers.

Edisoninvestmentresearch have released a note (very brief)

The note also tells me they are very much actively on the hunt for something else, maybe buying into an existing business somewhere in Europe, or another license agreement/joint venture.

And that once they are producing the higher quality products, they have a active market in Europe.

I suspect it's that the market already knew most of the news, insurance although not in doubt, as yet the final amount etc, hasn't been signed off. There seems to be a slip in timelines outside of the US issues.

OSS as expected is performing beyond estimates, but as they have ramped up, they start to hit feedstock competition. This should be resolved once they bring onstream the higher value products, and have a stronger position regarding feedstock procurement.

Now that Southern Oil's future is stable, I suspect the plans will accelerate.

We seem to be a little underwhelmed. Fair?

Performance during 2013 was strong, the building blocks are in place, the next 18 months look exciting yet no great fireworks just now. All in all I am content to hold and wait.

Looking forward to tomorrow, more for the update on current activities, as I don't expect the results to be anything unexpected.

The MM's often use the mid price or delayed transactions, presumably to hide such things for gain.

I think foremost they will extend their transformer oil reach (with improved patented process), then industrial oils, group 2, and very much hope group 3.

I'm not sure they are concentrating on hydraulic directly, rather the above high value oils/blends, that can be used for a wide range of applications.

Transformer oils should increase in value, in so much that a lot of capacity to produce this type is being scaled back, but demand for quality product increases.

I was a bit worried with these few large sells showing up today, but I did a test purchase and am pretty sure that they are in fact buys. Fingers crossed for some good news tomorrow.

The 2013 numbers will presumably be very much in line with the update on 22nd January so it is news of progress since in the various areas under development that we are looking for. OSS should be making good progress and news on the Essar re-refining project is anticipated. Dare we hope for progress on hydraulic oils or will that be later in the year?

Whatever the current status of insurance and plant rebuild, I'm expecting the OSS side of things to be very strong.

There was a concern these past months, that the rebate scheme would be cut in Australia, and with it possibly Southern Oils business. The new budget, probably with lobbying from Tim Rose, has confirmed the renewal of the commitment to the scheme.

Has the USA investigation ref the explosion at the HYD plant run its course yet? I have not had the time to drop in here as I've liked. As long as the states give us clearance to continue our further ventures in their own back yard it's as good as go, isn't it?Anybody any news on this ruling/verdict?Will try and find time to dig a little further, when I find time. The business model looks 100% A OK and its a winner imo!But hey, this is AIM and the Americans love destroying aim companies at any given chance of late.Ref QPP, QXL, BLNX, ASOS, MOS, GBO.Let's hope HYD can give them a kick in the B!!!!

Increased number of trades in recent days. 4.5 million shares traded today, the most since Feb, with a high proportion looking like buys. Looks like it is building upto the results. News on the resolution of the insurance claim and replacement of the burnt out plant plus progress on the uk acquisition will all be of interest.

If any of you are having trouble with your CGT calcs, then this is what I have found. This is the broker's statement:

18 Nov 2013 HYDRODEC EXCESS REFUND +133.65 167.14 cr
31 Oct 2013 23681 Hydrdec o/offer basic @ GBP0.1125 -2,664.12 33.49 cr
31 Oct 2013 2985 hydrodec o/offer excess @ GBP0.112 -335.82 2,697.61 cr

I entered the deals for the stonebanks.co.uk calculator as

311013, b, 23681, 11.25, 2664.12, open offer
311013, b, 2985, 11.25, 335.82, excess shares

My 5 April 2014 qty figures were different from those from my broker. The secret is that I should have taken the excess refund from the excess application and then calculated the number of shares allocated.

£335.82 (aoolied for) - £133.65 (refund) = £202.17
and shares allocated = £202.17/0.1125 = 1797 shares so the correct data is

311013, b, 23681, 11.25, 2664.12, open offer
311013, b, 1797, 11.25, 202.17, excess shares

RNS: Further to its announcement of 26 February regarding the receipt of an initial payment in respect of its insurance claim relating to the incident at the Canton re-refinery and in light of the continued constructive progress being made in respect of the final settlement of the claim, the Company confirms as previously stated that it shall delay the publication of its audited results for 2013 as the Board believes it would be preferable to have the insurance position settled, if practicable and feasible, prior to finalising the audit of the 2013 results. The Board will keep this timetable under review and a further announcement will be made in due course
