#PH, frightening facts on mortgage repayments there, and so many people are on interest only too.., the FED expectations were 7 * 0.25% rises for 2022, so 5 to go and another 1.25% to come, we follow their lead pretty closely so a 2.25% UK base rate by year end could be a reality here..I have been on the receiving end of a mortgage doubling overnight when it rolled out of the initial 2 year discount onto the variable then 7% 25 years ago, most unpleasant, and it will happen again to many many over leveraged account holders now who will not be able to cover it even at 2/3%..So many people are up to their back wheels in debt on top of the mortgage and the lease car is on top of all the rest..Troubling times ahead...

Let's face it, what's the point of even going to work if your mortgage repayments have 5 bagged.

#Lowtrawler, a very interesting and scary period coming up for the economy, and what the BOE can do about it without totally derailing business and home owners with 8/10% interest rates which would see mass repossessions business closures and unemployment, the BOE chair has already admitted they are impotent to tackle it head on in the traditional way with jacking rates up..So what next.., I expect 2/3% rates max this year, but that means it will take 2/3 times as long to slow the economy down enough to impact inflation, 10% rates tomorrow would work, but clearly cannot happen..Temporary if is not, transitory yes, but over a longer period..Gold typically does well in a higher rate environment, and we should start to see that play out..

DB, anyone who thinks current inflation is transitory did not live through the 70's. Inflation turns into a vicious circle. Wage demands to match inflation are inevitable. This will further increase prices of all goods and services leading to higher wage demands. Ultimately, this leads to redundancies and business closures.I think it will take 12 months before wage inflation is in full swing. I believe we will be looking at double digit inflation over several years. If interest rates don't also increase to match, we could be looking at hyperinflation.

BlackRock Inc. Chief Executive Officer Larry Fink said he expects inflation to remain elevated for several years primarily because of snarled global supply chains.

Gold and silver consolidating ahead of jobs Friday...ADP massively missed yesterday so fingers crossed for some more dollar weakness and we could be looking at a gap up come here come Monday.

Here in the US Hum popped up 16% this morning. Strange eh? Correction. Still going up, 28% now.

Reading the moneyweek article on gold miners snapping up rivals seems they are singing from the same book as us that its the smaller miners who are likely to be snapped up. No mention of HUM though but with no single shareholder in control to me its a given that it will be in the firing line .
