I don't suppose the situation in the Far East is helping either. Any increased problems there could hurt this badly.

Thanks Gary, you may be right as both do appear to follow a similar pattern.

Does anyone know what's lies behind todays fall? Perhaps there a broker downgrade lurking about somewhere? It started down with a drop of 5p on opening and sank to lower depths throughout the day.

Thanks guys...the person's account is in the UK and he is visiting here in NZ...they keep telling us to look at the printed monthly statement (which is in the UK) or to call in to his branch (which is also in the UK) and ask them...he is going to ask someone in the UK to go to his branch and ask them.... hopefully they'll give them the info...cheers anyway for your help.

kiwi,

I've just looked it up and the second 2 numbers which vary are known as 'check numbers/digits'.

"A check digit is a form of redundancy check used for error detection on identification numbers, such as bank account numbers, which are used in an application where they will at least sometimes be input manually. It is analogous to a binary parity bit used to check for errors in computer-generated data. It consists of one or more digits computed by an algorithm from the other digits (or letters) in the sequence input.
With a check digit, one can detect simple errors in the input of a series of characters (usually digits) such as a single mistyped digit or some permutations of two successive digits."

Not sure if you can proceed without these.

Any UK HSBC customers on here? I've been trying for over three hours to contact HSBC UK and get a simple answer to 'What are the first 8 digits of HSBC UK's IBAN number (which is then followed by customers sort and account number). I can not get anyone at HSBC to answer.

Gary- excellent posting!HSBC recovered well today. Did I missed the buying opportunity yesterday? I am still not sure. However, I am happy to my investment on the HSBC shares. I periodically buying in this share over the past 2 and a half years gives me a very good return.
