"Buy any boxset and get any other half price."

Excellent deal for customers, but are they going to make any margin on this deal?

Sounds more like a clearance sale......

All IMHO

It's Christmas Eve again in the drunk tank, a HMV spokesman said to me "won't see another one"...

HMV is FINISHED. the Market clearly thinks so too. I took a heafty loss here but will make it up elsewhere as I got out with some capital left. if this pre-packs shareholders will get nothing. is that a risk worth taking ?? look at the chart FFS !!!

"it is in suppliers interest to keep it going"

WHY?

If HMV Group plc folds, the suppliers can supply goods to the new company 'HMV 2 the next adventure', just like they did at 'GAME ver 2.0'.

OK, they'll be less branches, but surely its better to supply a profitable company, one that does not need hand outs, than one that needs life support.

"Its not easy deciding at what stage you pull out or carry on the dream"

You pull out when the have just had an influx of cashflow, and before rents and suppliers are paid, i.e. just after Xmas.

All IMHO of course

Banjo

Flattery will get you nowhere....

News time...........

BBC awards boost HMV sales........apparently?

They of course do nothing for Amazons sales.......priceless.

"Had there been a Bradley Wiggins DVD I'm sure we'd be seeing a surge in demand for that too."

Yes, no doubt.....but there is one, HMV seemed to have missed a trick, shame.

Not to worry Amazon sell it.....

wOW - its taken me 10 minutes to read all the posts today! NV i wasnt being critical of Totally Banjo for not posting - he has indeed posted and kept us updated on HMV activity on a daily basis! Yes NV I do post more - took early retirement recently and so have more time to follow prices and dabble a little more. As previously said, think TB does a great job at keeping us informed.

I bought into HMV a few years back - price was around 80p and i enjoyed a great dividend in my first yearof over £500! I topped up last month when at 2.6 to bring my average down - and am still now looking for / dreaming for around 11.8 to break even. I have really believed that HMV will be a survivor - with banking support and suppliers support - it is in suppliers interest to keep it going! Its not easy deciding at what stage you pull out or carry on the dream!!!!!

The hack has made a rather important error.

Apologies (I think), but was indoctrinated as a member of the parachute regiment (Bloody Sunday, Warren Point), I'll get over it eventually... ;-)

Popping into my local HMV today there was hardly anyone looking at all the high tech stuff and no one buying, customers were buying the old fashioned CD's and DVD's.

Logan

HMVs new CEO was bought in after the shareholders were shafted at Jessops, he was bought in to turn it around, which he appeared to do quite well.

That does not mean he will achieve the same here, but you never know.

Just spotted this tweet............

"HMV make no sense.. product is £29.99 in store, I pressed 'click & collect' online and it's £22.59 to pick up from the same store!"

As if you need another good reason to buy online........they appear to have lost another high street customer.

And yes, I know they probably still bought it from HMV, but HMV lost a huge margin on the sale, and it still has to pay for the stores.

Strange – the number of times I see a struggling company put in a new CEO who has just come from a company that they have put into administration only with-in a short period of time to do the same with their new company.

Why would a bank allow HMV to put 3 months' advance rent on a loss-making shop into a landlord's pocket? Makes no sense.

This looks to be going the way of Jessops (another 'uniquely placed' retailer)- shut down worst-performing outlets & arrange a prepack for the best ones in a vastly slimmed down outfit.

a question for you:

What on earth were Ma and Pa Volens thinking calling their daughter Nolens? Surely they realised that it would lead to playground ridicule and a life of torment?

Rhyming name and surname is never a canny gambit.

Alliteration, on the other hand, is always a winner.

They could have gone with: Virginia Volens, Veronica Volens or, my own personal favourite, Veruca Volens

Just saying.

Graham lol you have no idea how much I traded hmv for over the last two years. Only Netley and I posted any trades last week. But I tell you what, you've got Monaco back on lse. He bought hmv at even higher than 80p and he's just posted that he's looking for a 2.40p buy for a possible lift to upper threes.

You go deal with him tiger
