Posted at 15/4/2020 07:06 by our haven Actually Windsor430, the point made about 'my word is my bond' is a fair one. Hiscox is known as a generous settlers of claims, so if the they are seen as the opposite then this will cause them damage if anyone else pays.I am a long term investor who is concerned but I think in the end they will not have to pay out and nor will others. |
Posted at 14/11/2019 17:27 by plootocrat Essential Investor - thanks for your responses to my post yesterday. One point of information and a couple of opinions for your consideration:The combined total of shares bought on Monday by various directors was 31,500 which clearly is greater than the 27,124 sold by Paul Lawrence in September, not fewer as you stated in your post 49. However, I don't wish to appear pedantic and I accept that it is unwelcome when a senior manager in Paul Lawrence's position sells such a significant volume of shares. I too used to work in insurance (for the avoidance of doubt, I did not work for Hiscox) and Hiscox are the only general insurer in my investment portfolio and have been so for a number of years. I cannot agree with your suggestion that Mr Lawrence, as Chief Underwriting Officer of the London Market and Lloyds Syndicate Division (Richard Watson is CUO at the Group level), has greater insight or knowledge of the likely future fortunes of this business than the CFO, Robert Childs or Bronek Masojada. Mr Masojada is, IMHO, one of the brightest people working in the insurance market and has, as far as I am aware, always been very straightforward in providing information to shareholders even when it is news he knows they may not want to hear, as you will know these qualities are all too rare. |
Posted at 02/7/2019 13:39 by our haven I have held this share for a number of years and it just keeps delivering. Looking at their situation, come I hope not no deal I can see that they are well placed, will continue to hold. One happy investor!DYOR, sure you will be impressed |
Posted at 25/1/2001 13:35 by lloyds Hiscox could go or not-the unsubstantiated rumour is that the management dont really want it but ! Unrelated insurance stocks suggest you look into the HISCOX Portfolio fund which will save you a lot of trouble. SVB is a good one as is BRIT-look at the charts. Basically the sector is on a positive roll now after years of underpricing. It will be slow unless consolidation occurs(see Allianz)but steady progress in this area and yes there is money to be made for the patient and well informed investor. Bermuda Insurers are also doing well see ACE and X/L. |
