15/3/2006 08:00 | No discrepancy babysitter, the record date's 2 days after the xd date. Anyone buying now onwards doesn't get the dividend - hence the fall at open. | verulamium
15/3/2006 07:35 | advfn shows XD today yet - "The dividend will be payable on 17 May 2006 to shareholders on the register on 17 March 2006." can someone explain discrepancy? | babysitter
14/3/2006 20:43 | Ramping? That is the practice which goes something like ... Buy now because it'll soon double in price. Now as far as I can see there are no such posts on this thread, although other threads (and, usually, for dodgy/risky shares) do suffer from rampers. | gorse

14/3/2006 18:37 | I agree with Karldinnel there will probably be a bit more frantic buying before the ex-div date and then it will go back to the more slow and quiet (but progressively upward) trend it has shown in recent times. I don't know if others who have held this share much longer than I have would agree - but the recent see-sawing in share price isn't the norm as far as HWY is concerned.... | jezboy1
14/3/2006 17:49 | I always intended to hang on for the dividend, but I got into these in the first place because there was so much visibility about the dividend. The management had stated that we should expect a final dividend of at least 3.4p, and they have more than delivered that. However, what guidance have they given us about future divis? All they've said is that times are challenging and that they want to maintain the position that they have got the business to. Doesn't sound hugely optimistic, does it? The reason I am holding on through the divi is because I can't see why they would raise the full-year divi to 5.3p, after they had promised only 5p, if they were expecting to cut it back in future. So from the point of view of income, holding the shares makes sense at these levels (divi yield of around 6.25%) and below. If they rise much higher, say to 95p, I shall probably sell. The directors' buying also suggests that there is limited downside from here, so I'm not expecting big swings in the price either way. Unlike others here, I'm not interested in ramping, just giving an honest view of my thoughts. Always DYOR. | karldinnel
14/3/2006 17:44 | Closing at 85.5p ... what a happy way to move into tomorrow's xd for 3.7p ... and a lesson, if not for Robbie, at least for some of his followers. | gorse
14/3/2006 14:47 | do you think there will be lots of selling after the ex-div date then? | rob1914
14/3/2006 13:46 | Surely this is just everyone buying in ahead of the ex-div date? | karldinnel
14/3/2006 13:21 | Back on track - chart still looks fine. | siskinbird
14/3/2006 10:00 | nice to see 950k @ 85p, there's life in the old dog yet ;-) | babysitter

11/3/2006 13:17 | Jezboy1. Here is a link but it just reiterates what Iroll posted. | chrismic
11/3/2006 12:32 | Iroll thanks for the post, always nice to have a 'feel good' factor about your share, I agree entirely with Chrismic. (instead of feeling like the heartless capitalist....) Anyone good a link to this list? Reckon I am right about the funds sentiment. J | jezboy1
11/3/2006 11:49 | Iroll........Good Find.....pity I sold out before Directors wife buy. | randv
11/3/2006 11:31 | Iroll. Good post. This it seems to me is a likely explanation for the rise. Also with a bit of luck this ethicial investment should support the share price up until the 17th and hopefully sellers will have been shaken out and we may see new supported highs. My opinion. dyor. Wow a share that pays good dividends has the potential for capital growth and is a socially responsible investment. What more can you ask. Its all too good. Should I be selling? ;-) | chrismic
11/3/2006 08:52 | Yesterday's somewhat unexpected rise may have been sparked by ethical funds purchasing in advance of HWY's inclusion, in a week's time, in the FTSE4Good index..... "09 March 2006 FTSE4Good Review 40 companies added, 19 companies removed from leading SRI index series FTSE Group, the global index provider, today confirms the results of the March review of the FTSE4Good global index series. An additional 40 companies worldwide have met the index criteria that assess companies' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices based on principles of Socially Responsible Investment (SRI). Globally, 19 existing constituents will be removed from the index as they no longer meet the criteria. The largest number of new companies is from the UK (13). Changes to the index will take place after the close of the markets on Friday 17th of March 2006. The thirteen UK companies entering into the FTSE4Good index are Entertainment Rights, F&C Commercial Property Trust, Highway Insurance Holdings, Incisive Media, ITE Group, Oxford BioMedica, Pilkington, Protherics, Retail Decisions, Robert Wiseman Dairies, SCi Entertainment Group, Wolseley and Yell Group." | iroll
10/3/2006 20:19 | Management's comments have always been expressed in a similar style - probably rightly so given the competitive nature of the business. In the end though still looks a great play on fundamentals. Anyway, the market clearly thinks this is worth more and the price is set I think for another major move up. Nice one. | rochdae
10/3/2006 18:24 | Couldn't increases simply be fund managers (with boring but low risk portfolios) buying in shares for the divi? I mean a yield of over 6% is not to be sniffed at. I don't see the takeover scenario, but I have been wrong many times on that front. J | jezboy1
10/3/2006 16:34 | Another small director buy announced | noiseboy
10/3/2006 16:25 | Fair comment. | chrismic
10/3/2006 16:23 | >>chrismic. IF there is a predator picking shares in the market he is far more likely to buy in small broken up parcels on an ongoing basis, which explains why no holding announcement so far, as this is delayed until accumulation complete. best of luck and a nice divi to you too ;-) | babysitter
10/3/2006 16:18 | babysitter. There are some farly well healed PIs out there. Most share purchases today have been below 15000 which indicates PIs to me. There have been some 4 * 100000+ transactions today of which 2 were buys and 2 were sells. I acknowledge your point and believe me I hope you are absolutely correct and would happily like to have my suggestion proved wrong. Nonetheless I am very happy with the interest in this stock at the moment but can't put my finger on the reason for the high volume of trades on this stock post announcements. Am really happy with the northwards progress though. Good luck to you. Lets keep an eye on it. | chrismic
10/3/2006 15:53 | >>chrismic. i acknowledge the importance of director buying, however this will mostly influence the PI. volume today indicates that bigger players are interested ie fund managers/predator. | babysitter |
