Yes, it must have a big seller, then the drop starts, autos follow- shares bought up, I reckon end of day will be just above 130, gold up too and weaker dollar has stayed a bit weaker despite US opening. Fingers crossed.

Over 2.5 million traded, someone feeding the buyers. The old saying feed the ducks when there quacking and buyers certainly quacking, lol.

Could be, but why aren't all miners impacted? Also, shares sold don't seem to add up- all very odd, but thanks for the thought- it's the only reason anyones comes up with! Golds up a tad, dollar a bit weaker, ftse now up- I reckon you summed it up best- WTF. The last time this happened a few of us on the forum spent days trying to find out why and it remained a complete mystery.

Do you think Vanguard would hold this, doubt it.

I wonder if this was part of the Vanguard fund that was selling off miners? Will have to check although its not a priority for me now after the fact.

Not often you see a share drop so much with absolutely no change in fundamentals or market sentiment as evidenced by the price action of other miners. Quite simply WTF.

The divi should certainly more than offset the short term penny pinching that is going on, for me at least.

This drop is not linked to normal conditions, but as I've said many a time, of all the goldies, this one is the one that NEVER gives reasons for the big drops which get occasionally- other eg CEY, RRS do... it's always a gamble this one, but the divi in a couple months softens things, and a fantastically low PE and one of the few miners with growth and low cost futures eg Kekura- will keep this as my long termer... :-). PS would buy more, but am fully allocated for today alas.

I've nearly doubled my position here today. I'm confident the share price will recover.

Garyc was on a limit for an aussie cannabis but this is a crazy price that may go crazier so my adder did its job. Short of funds now.

In reality it's only oversold when the market turns and the market is not showing any signs of doing so.

The market is irrational, this isn't science, so it becomes a question of belief, or to put it another way: bear vs bull.

There are some indications that gold miners are disproportionately affected (e.g. HUI vs pog) and in that sense "oversold", but the bears are still firmly in charge.

I have been buying HGM but clearly it's proven to be a falling knife.

I'm a believer in a reversal of the current trend. September should tell us whether we're just in deepest gold silly season or we really are looking at gold moving towards $1000/oz...

casual,

OK...but, we have 1,414,404 buys and 805,533 sells......none of this makes any sense.

Agreed, likely a forced seller. Results last week were good and negligible change in the gold price today.

Very unusual for it to move so much in one day. Perhaps there was a distressed seller (obviously needed to have a large holding to move the dial like that).

Today seems a repeat of what happened second week of June this year. About same volume being shifted and similar chart movement.
