05/5/2022 08:11 | Decided to pick up more at current 22% discount. | chillpill
31/3/2022 12:09 | If they can keep up the rate of buybacks, eg 100k per week, then they can add a percent to NAV every 6 months. Though at that kind of rate I imagine the discount would close, but it's still a win either way. One way of looking at it is that buybacks can pay for fees. | apple53
30/3/2022 15:37 | Still 20% discount so 10% cushion | amt
11/3/2022 11:40 | Still 22% discount so about 12% cushion | amt
09/3/2022 08:21 | Discount 24%. It tends to hover around 10% in better times so upside on that alone let alone a recovery if small caps which have crashed | amt
01/2/2022 18:33 | Thanks 'This is me'. Actually 31st Jan close reflected tech bounce yesterday. Net Asset Value - including current year income 2418.18p You pasted above Friday's close disclosed yesterday. Yesterday's close figure didn't appear until 3pm today, later than usual, and 1 minute after your post! It is true, though, that Friday saw the first leg of the tech bounce but Herald's NAV still fell. This will be partly due to the fact that half of the NASDAQ's bounce on Friday was after Europe closed, while the NASDAQ fell sharply after Europe's close on Thursday, ie there was no real tech bounce for Europe on Friday. From the 4th Jan to approx low, Nasdaq was down c. 15%. Herald's NAV fell c.13% which, though an outperformance, is maybe 2-3% disappointing (in my view). Best guess at Herald's NAV at today's close may be £24.5 incl income. Today's close means a low double digit discount (based on auction which was a 30p jump), so still a modest opportunity. We may want to have more of a debate on the longer term growth outlook for Herald...... | apple53
01/2/2022 14:59 | NAV still going down: 31 January 2022 Net Asset Value - including current year income 2363.15p Net Asset Value - excluding current year income 2372.03p | this_is_me
01/2/2022 12:49 | market downturn. | quepassa
01/2/2022 12:42 | NAV fall due to the slump in tech stocks, but after results from Apple etc. they are recovering rapidly. | deadly
28/1/2022 08:04 | NAV is going in the wrong direction. 4/1/22 Net Asset Value - including current year income 2719.33p Net Asset Value - excluding current year income 2727.69p 19/1/22 Net Asset Value - including current year income 2515.11p Net Asset Value - excluding current year income 2523.80p 27/1/22 Net Asset Value - including current year income 2386.24p Net Asset Value - excluding current year income 2395.03p | this_is_me
26/1/2022 18:38 | Price fall is well overdone. | deadly
25/1/2022 08:31 | With NAV of 2462p on Friday night not surprised the company is buying back shares. Small top up for me this morning. | chillpill
24/1/2022 10:43 | That's a fair drop today | badtime
16/11/2021 07:42 | Tournesol - I've been posting for about 15 years and I'd not found the JDT thread, so thanks for that. I've also woefully underinvested in PE companies, but their recent gains have been so positive that it's hard to jump on now. Donald pond, thanks for the heads up, I didn't realise it was a free deal. Link is here if anyone is interested BTW, just a wee plea, as you seem to be a mover and a shaker. During the pandemic, we posters who don't live near London enjoyed halcyon days where we got the same engagement with company events, industry evenings, analyst presentations etc, as the chosen ones who live within the M25. Once you restart live events, can you spare a thought for us urchins, so we don't become the forgotten ones again, and keep some kind of online access. [Who knows - some of your regulars might be included in those whose exodus to the countryside have pushed up house prices here ;-) | spangle93
16/11/2021 06:57 | Don't want to blow my own trumpet but Mello Trusts and Funds is on tonight and is free to attend. I'll be speaking about a recent funds PF I have built at 5.30, if anyone is interested | donald pond
16/11/2021 00:19 | Octavia If you are new to ADVFN it might be worth my pointing out that there is a feature which enables you to see all the posts made by a specific poster regardless of which thread they are on. So if you decide that, for example, Skyship is worth reading, you can easily discover which threads he posts on. Whenever I find a quality contributor I do the above which often leads me to quality threads where I can then discover other good posters. To see where someone posts, just click on their username and select the option to see their posts. Voila. | tournesol
15/11/2021 22:57 | Thanks all, and especially spangle. Looks like skyship's thread is exactly what I thought we needed. A very expensive mistake not finding it til now! Covers some of my old holdings as well, like ELTA which I sold too early, and MVI, which I had forgotten I meant to check out again having flipped it last year. I can fling my 'real time NAVs' around and see what the experienced posters think. Infrequent comparisons with the best public equity trusts could also be useful. See you over there..... | apple53
15/11/2021 18:06 | Thank you Spangle, I have also been reading the private equity thread. But always happy to find new sources of discussion and information. Sunflower, thank you too for flagging up the JDT thread. I hadn't come across that before, although I have benefited from Skyship's knowledge and generosity on the private equity thread. I will check out the JDT one too. | octaviab
15/11/2021 17:44 | Hi Octavia & Apple Take a look at the thread with ticker JDT It started as a discussion of split capital trusts but then broadened out into a more general discussion across a range of ideas - including but not limited to REITs. There are a couple of dominant posters - but that's dominant in that they are very knowledgeable and very active. Discussion is constructive and civilised unlike many other parts of ADVFN The header has been set up to provide info about a number of different securities but the detailed discussion ranges far beyond the ones highlighted. It;s one of my favourite ADVFN boards - and although I rarely post there, I read it every day and have profited greatly from the insights of the regulars, especially SKYSHIP. You could either use it as a template, or you could consider dropping in and seeing if it suits you and your particular interests. Regards Tournesol | tournesol
15/11/2021 17:38 | Thanks apple53/octaviaB FYI if you haven't found it, there's a thread where people compare performance and abnormalities for private equity companies. Of course, Herald isn't included under that wrapper, but many of those you mention holding are covered. | spangle93
15/11/2021 17:35 | Tips in the financial press, I mean. | octaviab
15/11/2021 17:33 | I will look forward to it. I took profits on CLDN about 10 days ago as the discount had narrowed so much, so looking for new ideas. I'd been planning to put some into RSE, and I did in the end, but had to pay more than the target I'd set as suddenly everyone seemed to start tipping it at the same time. Very annoying, grrr. | octaviab |
