Seems just a short while ago that I was mentioning that Herald was about to hit the £1billion market cap level.

Such is the excellence/out-performance of Herald, that market cap has now surged to £1.6 billion.

The bloated discount-to-NAV remains wholly unmerited.

Mostly saying the 17% discount is unwarranted

Could be doing another buyback. ATT and SMT have been buying back also. Tech seems rather unpopular lately in the UK at least.

17% discount now. Tech stocks are looking strong.

Now 15% discount as markets sentiment towards technology remaining bearish despite gains in US markets. The UK will follow I am sure. I hope HRI buy back and the tech markets recover.

Looks like he might be choosing to retire at the right time. No doubt he's done fantastically well with a very focussed portfolio and achieved something few other IT managers ever will.

Going back to HRI, discount did widen by almost 10%, share price is down 10%. It now almost looks like a buy again. I'm back with the monthly drip-feeding anyway.

Just noticed that Herald have reduced their annual management fees wef 1/1/21 to:-

1. 1% of NAV up to £1.25bn
2. Thereafter 0.8%

Discount widened to 14% so they have started buying back shares again. With their track record they should be at a premium in my opinion.

Quepass and roddiemac,
thanks for info and comments .
yes roddiemac, with benefit of hindsight holding none spec investments has paid off but only because US indices keep reaching new all time highs and even covid 19 has
not stopped that . But IF that correction after covid19 had followed through and
turned into a bear market , holding stocks would have been a disaster as paper losses mounted . I trade using CFDs and only go wrong when I occasionally stray from OAAT
policy and usually do not short . each to his own as they say but conversion to charts and trading changed my fortunes .

arja,

Despite having doubled since covid knocked them , Herald looks a good medium to long term investment. I don`t see it as an interesting short term trade, but then I don`t trade. The real money is invariably made long term.

can anyone kindly tell me if HRI is mainly invested in USA tech companies ??. Chart looks quite good for recovery to about 2200 level assuming US indices hold up well. I tend to just trade using charts but try to know a little about fundamentals ( wry smile )

I'd never heard of a SPAC, I thought SPVs were the thing but maybe they are slightly different.
Isn't the idea in the main to buy unlisted companies to then list them?
Anyway I believe HRI had 7% of the shares in Idox currently in discussions regarding a taken over by a Canadian company.

Fascinating p.13 article in today's FT headed: " Spac led by tech founders targets European unicorns for US listings".

Article mentions that Tailwind International, a USA listed SPAC, is already searching for acquisitions in the European tech sector to acquire and subsequently list on the US market.

The SPACs craze is about to hit the UK and European markets.

My view is that the comprehensive media-tech portfolio of Herald will find that some of its investee companies become likely targets of Spacs as the craze proliferates throughout Europe.

Potentially excellent news for Herald and shareholders alike.
