Not pure conjecture. The China watchers have said they are orchestrating a 'controlled landing' and others a 'controlled demolition' of Evergrande. Whatever but I suspect the authorities will keep a grip - they wont want to rock the empire building. MO

Very fair point, scruff! I suspect Chinese Authorities are talking/acting tough to Evergrande (and its like) while subtly smudge-feeding some marginal 'drip-drip assistance' their way - so as not to have them collapse completely and badly upset the wider markets' applecart, putting the mainstream China (approved!) economy at risk. This is pure conjecture, but how has Evergrande managed in these last months?? Its numbers are crazily horrific - and the ratings agencies have remained amazingly benign, despite interest defaults?? Am guessing (literally) that China will do much to avoid its very own Lehman moment!

I like China's approach. 'Houses are for living in not for speculators' and insisting that Evergrande puts completing its projects before paying its creditors. Very old fashioned when priorities were ordered and principles were in fashion and something you could bank on. Something our current disastrous bunch of tools should learn.

Evergrande & Omicron may hurt FE/AP markets come Monday. I expect a further small pull back for HFEL. In effect, it started Friday with some fairly erratic pricing & trading.

At 295p it yields exactly 8%So the dividend acts as great support. As long as the dividend remains then this is currently an excellent investment.

Well from a chart point of view 290 is proving very strong support.

But he increased his allocation to his dividend portfolio to 6%. Over a ten year period this is unchanged, except you would have received regular 7-8% dividends. The very long term record remains impressive and the long term growth story of Asia remains intact. Added.

Holding these for the very long term and adding along the way, so not too concerned about short term pullbacks

Just don't forget that the "whopping dividend" has cost you best part of 11% loss of capital value since the start of the year. I don't!

Thanks Aleman, the Authorities must be suppressing the death stats.

Latest Chinese news: asymptomatic cases rise above 50% as vaccinations reach 75% so the virus gets harder to track as latest outbreak reaches 20 provinces - yet no deaths for 10 months.

John Baron has an exceptional long term record to the point where I would only take notice of his monthly post. I cancelled my subscription and subscribed to his website instead.

Cases going up in China a little again, which might explain recent weakness. It's very low but they tend to react hard with lockdowns and mass testing. There is a big snowfall event predicted later this week in the North. I'm guessing that might make it spread a bit more as it pushes people inside, though maybe not if there is lots and mobility drops. Anyway, I'd expect a few more bad lockdown headlines for a spell as they try push cases to zero for the Winter Olympics that start in early February.

I used to get it on annual subscription - personally I think once a month would be enough - would probably subscribe again if it was but I used to end up with them piled up and only half read - often after finding none of interest in the list of companies index - surprised they started to include that as sometimes I have a quick peak in the supermarket. No doubt some of their journos have a good knowledge but a lot as you say are green around the ears. Ive been at this over 30 years and its changed a lot. A lot are gamblers rather than investors today. I used the app Primary Bid for the first time the other week - it suited my purpose as BBOX which Ive been in very profitably for a couple of years were having a placing. But it was a bit of an eye opener that from then until I cancelled it a couple of weeks later I was bombarded with IPOs and raises. I realised how it may as well be an app from William Hill or whatever. Couldnt possibly have any knowledge about the companies the speed they were coming through but as the app keeps going there must be enough people just taking a punt that the share price is going to rise after the placing. The data is well and truly against their chances of success there. I cant imagine anyone will keeo that up for long

Did some research on IC a few years ago and cancelled my subscription as a result.

Much depends on the the jurno.

Was shocked to find some giving advice were barely out of school with incredibly limited knowledge most on here have far more experience!

John does have good knowledge to be fair but whether he is right or not only time will tell but he does specialise in this area and would imagine he has a good following.

Certainly been a lot of buys that should have been sells over the years in IC. In my experience its strike rate has been pretty poor. I stopped it quite a few years ago - too expensive for a weekly and for what it is. Its ok for flagging up interesting companies but if anyone acts on the few words of someone who is panning through loads then they dont think much of their investment cash. The internet can do the same and more. IC doesnt seem to have the same influence on the share price that it once did either. All
only MO of course

Interesting most worrying to me is they will have to use reserve to pay dividend.

This is also an interesting read as a counterview of the current negativity towards China...
