Porsche, Yes who cares where and when we chated you are right, I agree with some of the points you raised but not all May be you should consider advising experts who they think otherwise, start with boss of Barclays. So you are saying soon LSE will shut and people move to asia and NYSE, right ? So why bother investing here which is the heart of financial hub of the world? So all of these multibilion dollar companies are so stupid to float in FTSE if they know they are losing values, right? Try to tell them this, I agree diversifying is good strategy so you are right with some of the points but saying UK and FTSE is unstable i don't buy that even after Brixit. Do you invest direct in companies or funds ? In any case thanks for sharing your views.

Micha 100% agreed and always good to see someone who understands the fundamentals This is 100% BUY to me at this levels. This is not a AIM company that people panicking over some shares being sold, this is a multibilion company with strong fundamentals and loads potentials.

The UK market is unjustly discounted as int investors are brexit fearful. HL is therefore trading at a discount. This is v easy to see as HL is at an snp500 multiple of 23-24 yet it quality, returns, profitability, growth, management calibre, prospects, and even owners (family owned) are so much better than the average snp500 company. For that reasin its a compelling BUY. Barclays is right- 19.50 is fair value

Porsche Despite my disagreement with Brexit fundamentally, I actually think from stock market point of view this will create a huge opportunity for UK and FTSE Please go and read what Barclays boss (jes Staley) said recently and perhaps update yourself on your views regarding liquidity and your investment plans going forward Brexit gives UK the opportunity to define its own agenda to stay competitive and focus to compete with NYSE and Asia markets, (not Europe) Wealth of experience of UK in finance is truly unmatched anywhere else and so the reason i actually think FTSE will thrives this year to hit the new high Also third times asking, ... have we chated before in ATYM threads? I recall this name and not sure it is you.

2action, yes that’s a good one altho heavy weighting for Berkshire, better spread than Polar Capital one also. Both a far better way to play financials, stay out of U.K. and European banking, dire, usa will never have negative rates so do much better.

2stock Actually I have studied these and traded them many times, for good money, they are actually back at mid 2016 levels so fairly pathetic growth. Hardly stellar. Lack of liquidity behind U.K. market means it will always keep underperforming, its a hated stock market for good reason since brexit. As I say if you want to “ invest “ buy the S&P, if you want a good financial go for Goldman.

@ stockready. It’s amazing how private investors delude themselves, liking the stock is a big mistake, it’s just a stock. If you want to invest in one financial rather than a financial etf (less risky) go and buy Goldman Sachs later when the US market opens rather than wasting time on this.

Ochs No i didn't Just very recently got interested and was studying the fundamentals which is strong and robust IMHO This creates an opportunity to buy and i will add more in steps at the different levels but the direction is only up here if you are a long term holder GL

Remember also that he's 74, so likely estate planning and he paid 0p for most of his shares (due to founding the business) so £15.35 is a huge profit on that (despite the capital gains tax).

The last time Peter H sold was 7 Feb 2020 (just after interim xd) and he's done the same again here, 17 Feb 2021. I therefore strongly doubt he'll sell anymore before the much larger final & special dividends in Aug/Sept - so chances are if he were to sell more in the future the earliest date would be next Feb 2022. The 90 day thing is a standard clause used in these sorts of placings - Dunelm deputy chairman had the same 90 day clause in his sale a few days ago.

If I had to guess I suspect he sold a few more because of possible cgt changes. Could also of sold a lot more but didn't , suggesting he may think current price is low. Expecting a bit of a bounce as aum continue to grow.

Porsche Sometimes you do what you have to for so many reasons which me and you can keep speculating for years and still get it wrong He wanted his money now for various personal and financial reason none of that means this wouldn't go back up He didn't want to wait This is a long termer and shorter fluctuations means nothing to me I just know great price to buy at any of these levels This company is massive and none of these will change it

Which would be good for shareholders, no? Unless you're holding from £25 without adding, I guess. But that would be silly...

The future for this increasingly data driven business is scale. They’ve get to get their act together in building through mergers and acquisitions. If they don’t, they could well end up on the wrong side of an acquisition, especially with two large private shareholders seemingly interested in selling. Salty

@micha14, HL are not a 'family owned business' and haven't been for many years - there's no longer any member of the Hargreaves or Lansdown family involved in running the company. Yes they are shareholders, but as we've seen today and in recent years, both are regular sellers. The good thing about these sales is that they are always lapped up by institutions so it does help further widen the shareholder base which should be a good thing in the longer term. @GrowthPotential, in fairness to Dampier he sold shares on 16 May 2019 and the Woodford fund imploded on 3 June 2019, so it wasn't the 'day before'. Clearly he got a very good price for his shares (2,392p) and raised £5.6m, but he appears to have followed all the rules and the share sale was made the day after an HL trading statement.

It's going to be a drag for the forseeable, as he is clearly going to offload more. As will the other one. As essentially a swing trader, it probably helps, as it makes the movement a little more predictable. Only a little though - it still seems pretty random to me.
