So I think Robin Hood actually has a lot to answer for in terms of 1. The bid ask spread is where the margin is made along with directing flows. 2. Actually they market complex securities to amateur investors meaning you get huge wipe outs. I don't think they have the clients best interests at heart, do you?

You still here, and short? I thought you had given up when it spiked up in July - 1550 odd to 1900, and you went very quiet. Painful. Maybe you're just wrong - there are far more obvious targets out here. Personally I'm all for a plunge - maybe the Friday afternoon kicking ahead of another slagging in the The Times / Sunday Times at the weekend. Pick them up around 4.25 and sell on Monday. Nice little earner.

When Robin Hood or similar finally decide to open in UK HL will be toast.

Cheers, I listened to it on Spotify. HL is in a good place it seems! One could argue the 0.45% platform charge is high but the product and wide selection of choice, tools, service and security is definitely worth it I would argue

No, it is freely available to all. I listened on the Apple podcast app but it is also available on the IC website.

IC today: Hargreaves cranks up the special dividend Crisis? What Crisis? Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) felt able to more than double its special dividend to 17.4p for its June year-end, in addition to raising its regular annual pay-out by 11 per cent. That equates to a 31 per cent aggregate increase, effectively providing a respectable yield of around 3 per cent. It is all down to cash generation, up 14 per cent at the operating level. Though the investment platform had to part with an addition £40.7m in income tax through FY2020, there was a £56.6m net increase in cash and cash equivalents. Underlying profit – excluding a £38.8m gain on the disposal of FundsLibrary – was 11 per cent to the good at £340m, but the most eye-catching metrics were partly bound-up with the impact of the pandemic – and clients’ concerns over their equity positions. Digital visits increased by 41 per cent to 249m through the year, in addition to “unprecedented volumes of emails into the Helpdesk between April and June”. The group maintained its direct to consumer platform market share at 41.1 per cent, while registering a significant increase in the share of the execution only stockbroking market. That is in addition to 188,000 new clients through the period, bringing the total to 1.4m, and feeding though to record new business volumes. Consensus estimates give adjusted EPS of 48.81p, rising to 51.71p in 2022 IC View Institutional cash positions remain elevated, presumably a feature of the retail market, too, as investors increase liquidity to take advantage of further turmoil in equity markets – Brexit notwithstanding. A favourable backdrop for the platform, but it will be more instructive to determine the proportion of new volumes that will be maintained when normality returns. Hold. Last IC view: Hold, 1,640p, 12 Feb 2020

An excellent set of results. The reporters at the Sunday Times who have been conducting a vendetta against Hargreaves Lansdown during the past year 'should go away and shut up.'

Yes, as per discussion in mid-July - it is a growth business, the only question is by how much they will grow and how they will manage the new environment. Doing just fine so far. How anyone sees it as ex-growth... Premium rating, for good reason.

Yes, a few examples recently - but nothing of that nature in the last two weeks. That said, twice last week it froze displayed prices, which was extremely annoying. Happened about a year ago as well. Been OK this week so far. Dunno - some platform issues I guess - suggests larger volumes of trades/users. Good for the share price, as long as they manage it properly. I can forgive the odd balls-up... Share price quite robust since that spike on 21st July - short interest maybe getting a bit wary. Or a lot wary...

not share related but has anyone on here that uses HL. for ISA or SIPP or trading experienced any issues lately ? i have used them for 7 years and this year they have messed up a lot of things . Main problems are on stops and limit order buys , the app and website gives wrong error messages , i got three lots of limit order buys twice !! also did not credit me with dividend when i had sold in between XD day and payment day !! are they slipping or have i just been unlucky ? TIA

They make money by payment for order flow, they collect fees from 'electronic market makers for passing on customer orders'. They receive pennies for each order. The Week reported: 'For RobinHood, those pennies add up', they were paid nearly $100 million in the first quarter of 2020, leading to questions about whether Robinhood is getting customers the most favourable prices.
