Do you envisage a situation where HL becomes a bid target?GBP FX is terrible, they have super loyal clients and still higher AUM than pre covid yet 1/3 of share price and sterling 25% cheaper.

Wow i made the jump at the right time. Some heavy shorting on this, guessing they figure value of AUM is going to be wrecked as U.K. asset prices get decimated over the next 12 months, wheels seem to be falling off pretty fast with U.K., shocking whats happened to sterling, fxcking brexit started it tho the economy has been shxt since 08, tories a disaster, i think this it, real mega hardcore problems to arrive, just as wheezing boris bunter fxcks off. Inflation in U.K. slated to be 3x higher than france, yes the U.K. is energy poor and france has massive nuclear but thats still crazy. Will come back in on this sub 7.60.

@ACTION based on the charts I'm looking at the next support isn't really until the June lows of 759/760p, but you might also find there's a bounce around £8.

I've noticed the HL share price reacts more to movements in the DOW than movements in the FTSE - so whilst the DOW is still falling I fear HL could have further to fall.

@ancillary you should look at the poor profit levels of their competitors to answer your question.

For example ii provide a great service but their profit level is very poor for the value of assets under management. Be interesting to see if their new owners (abrdn) can find a way of extracting more value out of ii.

Hi @ACTION generally a support (or resistance) is classed as broken if a stock closes the day above or below that level.

So as an example yesterday although HL dropped below 846p first thing, it then staged a recovery and was trading well above that level until around 3pm, so up until then the support had held. However it then dropped significantly and finished the day under 846p, so support is broken.

Why should it stop at 840p? look at the values of their main competitors.

846p support has held for now. I've bought at 849p. Previously offloaded some around £9.

Support is 846p, although judging by US market close yesterday we could yet fall further.

Still plenty of time to buy before the xd date.

Disparate desperate times

Interesting article in one of the broadsheets as to the lengths broking companies are going to to keep customers from jumping ship and taking their assets with them

If this carries on will be a race to the bottom as the inducements get larger and hence eat into profit

Be aware everyone loyalty no longer pays

I don't think it gets quite that bad. Sterling been hammered, UK market is amazing value. People will still be adding to pensions and HL make more and more money when rates go up. I also sold 1/4 of a crazy large holding at 979p but been buying it back at 900p today

Took profits at just under a tenner. Had intended to hold but narrative has changed. I still think HL a good buy but prospects for U.K. and indexes this winter look like Armageddon, its a got a lot worse, parabolic inflation, taxes, collapsing productivity, I actually think there are going to be riots/civil unrest this winter, I cant see how there isnt an emergency government put in place by spring. If Citi are right and inflation hits over 18pc the U.K. economy is toast for years a la 1970/s. I just think all this U.K. listed stuff will be for sale by Jan for 30/40 pc more discount, who will touch UK assets with what is happening to sterling? Look at builders shares like persimmon….the market is pricing a 2008 style meltdown. I’d get clear for now, get into cash ( when I say cash I mean USD, if sterling goes below 1.16 next support is about 1.11, you could make another 10 pc on exchange before going back into bombed out sterling to hoover up this stuff on fire sale later in the year )

I think this is a steal personally , amazing ROCE for example. It definitely wasn't a steal at £20 or much north of £14-16 fair value but here it is.Even in bad times they are pulling in £bns each quarter, most customers like the service and won't switch. Every interest rate increases nets them more money.Decent divi yield also

I never said HL was a company you shouldn't touch for investing. Yes, it has great stats, and profits, but so have many other companies. If they don't get their act together plenty of other smaller companies will take their business and they have room to grow whereas HL don't have much. Why do you think the share price has fallen so much? Everyone can see and judge the stock just as well as you can.
