Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee member: 'This agreement currently exists between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, and we are waiting for the vote on amending the budget, so that the agreement becomes official'.

I still think this may drag and Amipur will pivot towards September and dealing in partnership with the KRG directly with Turkey. Maybe the Trump administration will intervene beforehand and Iraqi politicians come to their senses.

Brent is currently 75.6 and forecast to rise throughout 2025.

This might cushion some of those worried about the road ahead and encourage

a more relaxed and flexible approach from those APIKUR are dealing with.

Politics and compromise/pragmatism don’t seem good bed fellows where religious sections and power are in play.

Iraq is Kurds v Shiite v Sunni etc. Religion and culture..

You only need to look across the channel to the basket case previously known as France. Barnier tried to introduce some fiscal reality to the French budget but the French , being French, couldn’t show an ounce of pragmatism and the French psyche prevailed.

Like others, I think this will drag on until April when , finally, the ICG will be staring over the abyss and only then will they be dragged kicking and screaming to sign off the budget.

If not, like others have said, the Kurds will split Iraq and cosy up to Turkey, knowing their oil revenues will fund the Kurdish region government budget.
