Now why would Baghdad want/need to have a rethink when they can produce oil at $6/7pb versus $26pb in Koruptistan? That ain't good economics.

Then there's the small matter of the value between the quality oil and sludge which is why they want to price the contracts on an individual basis.

Then there's the "smuggled oil" and how long will Baghdad be happy about that arrangement before they do something about it.

Doesn't look like there's going to be any quick fix anytime soon. But as I said ages ago its very clear what Baghdad's intentions are. They ain't the ones going bust:-)

HG. You're probably correct, outside chance is that committee's in Iraq are used as a way of, ahem, facilitating deals, with performance payments and handy contracts handed out 🤷🏻‍♂️

Shaikan requires fast track development.GKP aren't going to do that/finance that.Hence they have sold up , to allow Major(s) to do so.They don't care about the pipeline.Shaikan merits its own pipelines for both gas and oil.They will build them.GKP is very clearly sold.

I agree . They are spinning this out to put max pressure on the KRG before September 2025. It will take months to review all the contracts. IF they ever do.

One hope is an "external event" or politics forces the ICG to rethink.

I wont be holding my breath.

Given that the KRG oil contracts are confidential, and companies are reluctant to disclose them to the Iraqi government: Baghdad and the KRG have agreed to appoint an independent advisory body which will review the contracts, and the Iraqi Oil Ministry will make decisions based on their findings.

• Adnan Jabri, a committee member, told Al-Sabah newspaper: "An agreement has been reached to engage a third-party consultant between the Iraqi Oil Ministry and the KRG Ministry of Natural Resources to review recent contracts. This will serve as the basis for deciding and taking appropriate action regarding oil exports from Kurdistan."

• The Turkish side is prepared to resume oil exports through the port of Ceyhan. However, issues between Erbil and Baghdad remain unresolved, particularly concerning recent contracts not recognized by the Iraqi Oil Ministry.

• The KRG seeks a comprehensive resolution for all contracts, while the Oil Ministry prefers to address each contract individually. This is partly due to the high production costs in Kurdistan, which reach $26 per barrel, significantly higher than the $7 per barrel in Basra fields.
