In a heated showdown over the Iraqi budget, the PUK has signed regional share articles, while members of the KDP have chosen to boycott. Two key articles, if approved tomorrow, hold the potential to significantly weaken the KRG's authority.

Details: Articles (13-14) of the budget law, signed by PUK's Harem Kamal Agha and Narmin Ma'roof, PUK member of the Iraqi Parliament's Finance Committee, have gained approval from the Finance Committee. They are now slated for discussion and approval in the Iraqi parliament tomorrow.
The PUK has secured agreements with Iraqi parties to pass clauses favoring their interests, particularly highlighting the ninth clause of Article 14, granting direct budget allocation to protesting provinces. Additionally,

Article 10 specifically addresses the prevention of oil field production in Kirkuk and Nineveh province, including the Khormala oil field near Erbil and Shaikan, responsible for approximately 40% of the KRG's oil production.

Iraq to Vote on Federal Budget Bill This Week



ERBIL — Iraq's parliament today announced that they will vote on the federal budget bill on Thursday after months of preparation and revision.

The Finance Committee in Iraq's parliament made changes to articles 13 and 14 of the federal budget draft last month. These alterations, which pertain to the allocations for the Kurdistan Region, caused controversy.

Kurdish authorities perceive these amendments as breaches of existing agreements between Erbil and Baghdad, as well as infringements on the Region's protected federal status according to the country's constitution.

Baghdad approved the budget bill in March, covering expenditures for the years 2023-2025. The budget totals nearly 200 trillion dinars, with 12.67 percent of the overall budget allocated to the Kurdistan Region. In return, the Region is expected to share revenues from crude sales with Baghdad.
