03/2/2022 15:52 | 3rd February 2022 in Construction & Engineering In Iraq, Investment, Iraq Oil & Gas News By John Lee. Iraq was the largest beneficiary from China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in 2021, according to a study by the Green Finance & Development Center, at Shanghai's Fudan University. It says the country with the highest construction volume was Iraq, with about $10.5 billion, followed by Serbia (about $6.8 billion) and Indonesia (about $2.4 billion). In the energy sector, Iraq received by far the most investment from China in 2021. Iraq and China cooperate on oil (e.g., construction of the Al Khairat heavy oil power plant with a total value of about $5 billion), gas (e.g., development of the Mansuriya gas field by Sinopec together with Iraq's Midland Oil Company), as well as solar (e.g., a 2 GW power PV project, currently in permission stage developed and owned by Power Construction Corporation of China valued at $3.7 billion). The report suggests that the price for the solar power project seems unusually high if no energy storage facility is included, with a comparable 2.2GW solar plant completed in China's Qinghai, with 202 MWh storage, at a cost of $2.2 billion. A Chinese company, the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), will also rehabilitate Nassiryiah International Airport. 03/2/2022 14:01 | FRom LSE - Interesting , not for me , just buy and hold , but migth be of interest. Dividend LeverageToday 03:12 I wonder if anyone is using this as a strategy to boost an already high yielding position in GKP? I've set up spread bets on GKP futures (to avoid overnight funding costs of approx 3%) and deposited 20% margin (to cover any short term volatility) in addition to the initial margin of 5%. Thus, for arguments sake a notional position of 100 with a 10% divi requires a deposit of 25, but yields 40%. This yield can be increased by more closely managing the margin or decreased by leaving more on deposit to further increase safety and the probability of future margin calls. Either way you end up with more income than a standard share purchase. In addition spread bets are not taxable, nor are the "dividends" which are simply cash adjustments to your account. If anyone else has some interesting strategies then please share. good luck all | thebabe

03/2/2022 12:31 | Paul, I agree you are correct, and I was wrong: they may not frustrate a bid by doing share buybacks without shareholders understanding that such a buyback might frustrate the bid: shareholders have to be advised of the effect of the buyback in that situation, and so would have to be told about the bid first before the buyback could occur and shareholders would have to give renewed permission in the light of the changed circumstances. I get that. There are many reasons why our company may not wish to do a buyback right now, and you have given only one reason, and are using that to try to raise the probability of a bid being imminent, which strikes me as dodgy just as there are many ways our EV/2P ratio can normalise without the share price rising: you always select "the price will rise" to normalise it, and generally deny the existence of other possibilities. BigDog5 would doubtless imagine 2P falling to normalise it, I wonder? | nobull
